Yep - one was found in my gearbox sump some weeks ago! 3.0 2000 MV6

The advice I got was if your box has no problems - leave it! Mine is as smooth as a babys bot!

I figure a strip down/rebuild would cost more than a replacement from a breakers - either way if it breaks I will be in the same position albeit inconvenienced with a possible recovery!

Am a little concerned but spose its a calculated risk

I have not held back on the gearbox since finding the thrust washer either!

I actually have a 2.5, and when I took the sumps off there was nothing - then I took the sumps off my doner 3.0 litre box and guess what I found  :o  ::)

I want to see if there is a trend with this, and whether it is more apparant on the 3.0L's - Its odd, and it just seems to keep cropping up more and more on the forum.

Not only that but there are conflicting views, some people say it doesn't matter and like your box, carrys on regardless - other people say its the beginning of the end - however I haven't yet seen a thread where someone has had major autobox probs, stripped it and subsequently found these thrust washers, or at least bits thereof..

Please, please vote if you can! 8 votes aint really cutting it!!!

I've added an option if this vote doesn't apply to you.

For those that are wondering what this is, bits of something like this:

Have been found, normally in the small sump on the bottom of the autobox.

Cheers,

Chris.

I'm ashamed to say that although I bought the gaskets & filter months ago, they are still sat on the rear parcel shelf of my car!  :-[ I will do it though, and keep a look out for bits of plastic washer.

Well this has been a bit of a flop to be honest - doesn't look like many have taken the sumps off, I'm guessing this is because rather than clean filters people have been just checking the gearbox level - or just not doing any maintenance on them!

So I would say this doesn't really confirm much - anyone know if cornishtaz had a 3.0 or a 2.5?

Cheers

If anyone wants to come and overhaul my gearbox, purely for the statistical reasons, then that is fine by me

 8-)

If you weren't a million miles away I'd do it, feel free to drive down here and I'll change it for you (but won't be held responsible for any tears if theres thrust washer bits in the small sump  ;) )

cornishtaz had 3.0l

Well thats 3 x yes for the 3.0L and 1 x no for it, and none for the 2.5's - not a big enough sample to extrapolate anything of any use really..

Thanks TB

I will vote properly when I persuaded LB66 to change my MV6 box fluid. And the tractor box fluid as well ;)
