No, I'm not a criminal.

But as per the title .. I need to break into my own Omega.

I have dropped a clanger, big time.

Tonight, after coming home from Brackley, the battery came out of my fob for the car. I found it, and put the battery in, but it's obviously no longer programmed (?) As it now won't open the car.

Problem is, I can't get in using the key - I don't have one. It's had the ignition barrel changed, and the key for the ignition is different to the key for the doors (which I don't have).

What a mess. I really need to use this car, can anyone come up with any suggestions, short of smashing a window?

Any easy way to break in? I did consider removing one of the rear tiny windows on the back doors, but not sure how it's done or if feasable..

Bearing in mind, the Alarm is set, and is sensitive, so I'll only have seconds after setting off the sensor, to get in the car and start it, to prevent alarm going off...

If anyone's got any suggestions, it would be much appreciated

james i dont now if this will work or not but have you tried useing a coat hanger to try and hook the door pin and pop up the c locking works on some cars quiet a few actually or to buy u some time c if u can remove ur front grill and if you can reach it you can pop the bonnet it worked on my calibra anyway and disconnect the battery and this should disarm alarm i think good luck if im wrong i hope some one will corrected me before the neighbors start get to mad good luck again jody

If the remote wasn't programmed, how did you lock the car? (not deadocked as well are they?)

You in the AA / RAC they may be able to help?

Yes the question is, is it dead locked or just single locked?

If you locked it by pushing down all the locks, is the boot locked?

You cant use a coat hanger as the bars for the locking run horizontal not vertical, so this would just bend them,  The easiest way is the boot, then through the back seats.

My Mate works for the RAC he gets a wedge shape and shoves it in the door craease at the top where it meets the roof, this opens a gap about 5mm, he then sticks s pole in and either opens the window via the button near the gearstick ( I think this wont work as the window switch disengages as you open then close the door), or bend a loop/hook on the end of the pole, then pull up the button for unlocking.

Dont know any other way.

The security is too good - where are the original door keys then?

The door lock thing is not the right shape to grab from the outside.

Get your recovery people to have a go.

You will be able to get in the rear doors with a rod, i have done this myself, the mechanisms on the rear are alot sloppier than the front, If the rod is pointed on the end it does grab under the lip and pull it up,.....

Be carefull with the impact sensors to open doors, I know a friend whom tried this and a few of his airbags went off because of it....

Mine is a prefacelift though, so might have different door pins.

I'd call the recovery chaps - likely to make less of a mess hopefully.

Remove the auto gearbox.
Reach up through the slot where the selector lever was and press the boot release button.
Replace gearbox.
Climb in through boot.

 

On a serious note, I'd call in a recovery service if you have one. They will know what tricks don't work so they won't damage things trying.

Unless you've got a spare window or two...

Not sure but may work. My old cavalier used to stayed locked sometimes, if you remove the battery + lead then reconnect, it used to reset the locks and pop them open. Just have someone stood by the door ready to open if they do pop, as they used to unlock then lock.

Is there a way to power the electric windows?  What I'm thinking is working carefully on the wiring loom between the door and the pillar to get some power onto the window motor.  Would need to read the wiring diagram to do this (at least to see if possible) and to fashion some tools to cut into and clamp wires.

You may be able to power down one of the electric windows that way.

Never tried myself but maybe worth a go?

Just a comment that if anyone does know a sure way of getting into a (dead)locked Omega that they should pm the answer to James :-? Don't forget it is a public furum, there could be various empty places tomorrow where our Omegas used to be!

Just what I was thinking Andy...

When I locked myself out of a (ahem) Renault 5 a couple of decades ago, it proved amazingly easy to remove the rear screen with a couple of standard table knives (without damage to screen or rubber). I'd like to think automotive security has improved somewhat since then.  If this does work for you please ask a moderator to delete this post immediately!

Park it for half an hour or so, unattended, in the Castle Vale area of Birmingham.

When you come back, if it's still there, it will be open.

i've pm'd him, since i locked my keys in the boot of my facelift while all the doors were deadlocked!

the coathanger trick wont work on a deadlocked omega door, and it's not like other cars where you can bend back the windows!!

i'm guessing that because of the new barrel, he'd kept the barrel key and just reprogrammed the fob for the doors

Chances are the rolling code is now out of sync with the car. It's still paired with the unit in the car but needs re-syncing, which needs access to the ignition key

the problem you would have even with the removal of the small back window is that the deadlocks still wont pop up, meaning you probably cant get in that way

i dont know how the central locking is wired and whether it can be located from outside the car, but if it can be, then that could be the only solution without smashing the driver's door window

however another plan springs to mind.. do you have time to get to a breaker's yard to get a new driver's window before you attempt entry?

I fell over and broke my right foot last night, (linked to my keys going flying) - so I certainly can't get to a breakers... and I'm probably not in a position to be pulling the door apart to replace the window

It never rains for you, does it  

If you don't have a key for either of the lock barrels on the car, you don't have a spare remote, and it's deadlocked I can't see any alternative to breaking the driver's window, putting the key in the ignition and hoping that you can re-sync the remote. I guess it will let you do that once it's seen a paired transponder chip.

i've learned my lesson, and not only do i keep my key secure, but when i get chance i'm going getting a spare programmed

thought about getting just the blade cut, but to be honest if anyone is going to keep a spare, it's best to get one that's cut and programmed!

I know that a Vauxhall Senator had a plate you could remove under the passenger wing that allowed access to the deadlock system.

I would have thought that there was something similar on an Omega, incase someone locked their keys in the car.

There must be a way.

If you smash it from inside, then all the glass will be outside  

Seriously, maybe loads of parcel tape or similar applied all over the glass, may help keep as much together as possible.

Not sure of your model but my fob takes 2 batteries. Oh, and a piece of tin foil since the copper connection broke.

best way not to get glass everywhere is to put a sheet of sticky plastic on the windon you want to break or good gaffa tape

Ok, it's window smashing time. Coathanger failed miserably. I can't get a new key from VX, as my V5 (and my wallet!) are in the car.

I have spare windows in my breaker, but I can't access them until the weekend.

I need to be able to secure (as best I can) the gap, AND move the car - which I won't be able to do if it's a front one.

Considering breaking a rear one, not front, on that basis.

My alarm allows loads of time before it goes off, so hopefully I'll be able to either pull the door button open, or if needsbe clamber through and get the key in the ignition.

Dont break a window, the non moveable ones are bonded in and a right pain in the arse to fix....the moveable ones arnt much easier either.

In reality, the seat release buttons are actualy reachable through the ski hatch anyway.

You're the boss - where do I drill.... on the metal silver key entry bit? What size bit etc... will it just pop open when Ive drilled enough?

and after the success of yesterday too, sorry to hear this James. Not sure what to suggest. I am surprised the remote stopped working just because the battery was removed. I should keep its programming, best speak to Jaime on that but just because it fell out, it should be ok to replace and still work.

Only other suggestion as Mark said, drill the boot lock and open the boot, kick down the Ski Hatch and squeeze though.

James is smaller than me, so he should be able to fit though just as well. But if you do need any help, i might be able to help. But it looks like i am away tomorrow, sorry

Well it is toughened so it will shatter - anything sticky will act as security film.

Thinks a lot, duck tape, drill and hammer - you WILL get glass in the car though but not as much

sorry to here this pain in the backside for having such good secure cars can't win can we,the only way in  is to drill boot lock and go in through back seat like markDTM said,just some thing else ,been reading haynes manual and says battery in fob should be changed every two years regardless,most replace battery within 3 minutes ,otherwise fob will need re-programming

If the door and lock are original, have you considered going to VX or locksmith with your chassis number and getting a key made... did this with a VX brand roof rack 2 weeks ago....

The Very Best of British Luck with this one....    the sun roof panel is a suggestion, easy to replace if smashed... get a donor first though...

undo the back of the nsf plastic wheelarch liner and bend out the way enough to undo the door loom,
use an earthed test light to prod into the connector going back into the car, cant remember off hand which terminal it is but 1 of them will open the rear doors.
if no test light available then just use an earthed wire but dont go into the top 2 (bigger) terminals, its a bit tight to do but saves a window

Firstly, if fob battery removed for too long, it won't need reprogramming (via Tech2) but resyncing (as per car's manual).

Either way, you need to get in.


Yet again, for the 2nd time this month, another warning for those without 2 full sets of keys to sort that out - remotes, transponders, and mechanical keys do fail!

Omega has a decent immobiliser. So why did the pleb add that simple other one is anyones guess...
