same as saloon I believe - on dash nr tax disc (up to 1998), or under dash behind centre vents (1999)

Found it after many hours on TIS... it hides under the dash vents behind MID.... wonder how that sees the satellites ??? Thanks for confirming  :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Sat Nav (CARIN)
« on: 27 September 2010, 21:06:49 »
Just a thought (as if I haven't got enough problems) I have managed to retro fit a Carin to my Elite TD hybrid thingy.

Is it possible to connect the speaker output to the stereo rather like the nice lady from the Trafic Master is connected on some sort of external input (or disconnect Trafic Master nice lady and plumb it in there?? )

Well suprise suprise, went down to my local breakers and he actually had a W reg (facelift) x polac sat in the yard with one good headlamp.

10 minutes later I had a Servo thingy in my hand. Cost... £5 + the VAT. Result I think

It's now fitted and the error message has gone away, so do I have to do anything else or is that job done ???

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Headlamp Field/Vision Fault
« on: 07 April 2009, 11:23:40 »
Thought i'd have a look at the headlamp feild/vision  fault i've been suffering with since I got my Elite estate, after checking and changing the level sensors to no avail I set about the next part in the chain.

Found this....

that will be a slight amount of water ingress then  :o

Don't suppose anyone has a good working one they could sell me ?? PN 90 565 805

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Odd radio thing
« on: 28 March 2009, 09:37:22 »
Not exactly a huge issue, just a bit odd. I have a '99 Elite with a CCRT700 fitted. This I believe has been decoded so I don't have to worry about disconnecting the battery  :-/ I've only had the car a week so I don't know much about that.

Anyway when I start the car the Radio just starts up on "MEM" and cycling through frequencies... never finds anything. It still holds the station presets so all I have to do is press "TUNER" a couple of times and i'm back to where I switched it off. Turn the car off again and restart again and it just forgets where it was and goes through the saga again.

Faulty ?? a result of someone else decoding it (why was that done ???) ?? or am i just being a bit dumb and missing something  :-[

Driving a lot better now, sounds a lot better too. Changed No4 injector and now for the first time since I did the swap I have no fault codes..... (except 92... something to do with cruise control which I don't have)

Fuel Consumption... not sure yet, the trip computer has gone from telling me I was getting 55 now down to 27-30, but it lies  ;D I'll keep check on a spreadsheet.

Next step is to get the thing chipped and see how long it takes me to break the box, with 291,000 miles on it I suspect it won't be long  ::)

Update....

Code 19 gone, oh and 31. Moved the crank sensor up to the timing pin, and then backed it off about a mill (Precision engineering  8-) ) Still have 34 though but I'm putting that down to a faulty No 4 injector.

Omega General Help / Bah Humbug.....
« on: 15 March 2011, 20:48:34 »
As every one remembers I took on the daftest project of 2010 when I swapped a V6 petrol engine for a BMW M51 diesel engine....

anyhow after much trouble and deciding that I had in fact knocked the injection timing out I decided that it was time to just give up and swap the engine... being very very careful.

This has resulted in a new batch of codes... 19,31 and 34. (Oh yes 31 whilst the engine is running :o )

I'm guessing that i have a dodgy crank sensor although the engine does tick over ok etc. Question is, does anyone know what the correct air gap is between crank sensor tip and timing pins on the flywheel, as it appears on mine to be miles away. I would have expected something around 50 thou but any thoughts ?

Omega General Help / Code 64... gone, just 2 new ones now
« on: 22 February 2011, 19:58:22 »
The hybrid TD Elite has at last dropped it's code 64, and swapped it for 2 new codes 34 (Injector timing) and 88 (MAF sensor).

Now at least I have an idea I may have caused the injector pump to slip a tooth when installing the engine/gearbox etc.

So is there a simple way of getting the pump off and realigning it without a major engine rebuild ??

2.5 TD

Thought this problem had gone away, but apparently not. Engine is very "top end" noisy (embarrassingly according to my g/f  :-[ ). Now mucho trawling of the web led me to change the fuel quantity sensor (oh what fun that was... NOT!!!!) and number 4 injector, with no change although I would have expected code 34 tbh. Now my next feeling is that perhaps when i fitted the engine I perhaps did manage to turn it backwards (I think someone suggested that -- GC ??) and therefore disturb the pump (but would i also get code 34 in that case ??

Any other thoughts before I get serious and swap the spare engine over with a known working pump  ;D Oh and 430 miles to a tank with little or no town driving doesn't seem quite right.

Yours frustrated....  :D

Lo Rich,
ok symptoms if you have turned it backwards usually include the following
1,very rough tickover when it finally starts
2.difficult starting
3. almost sounds as if its missfiring like a petrol would?and a heavy knock
4,little power although sometimes this is ok driving wise or once you get it going however there will be black smoke?

mileage wise to a full tank you are very correct something is seriously amiss if my manual is anything to go by!!however auto,s do suffer a mileage loss

Hmmm...

1, Rough tickover, yep but not really horrible
2, Starts fine... with a good puff of black/grey smoke though
3, No misfiring, just noisy idle
4, Gets driven like i stole it, and no noticeable black smoke. (Might explain the mileage though  ;D )

Oh and just checked my excel spreadsheet and it would appear 30.2mpg (suggesting I could get 495 miles out the tank - 16.5gal x30, but as the light is on I'm getting nervous)

Someone did suggest putting a bit of clear pipe on the leak off tubes to see if i'm getting any air in with the fuel (bad apparently). Also to have a look at the lift pump to see if the filter is blocked. Do these seem like reasonable ideas ??

Hmm, as a thrashed auto the mpg is not far off the mark then,
especially in current temps,

puff of black/grey smole when first started is normal,
if it starts almost instantly then it defo aint the chain problem
noisy when first started is normal also but it should get queter when the engine is hot?after around ten miles or so,
lifters do suffer from sludging up on these and get a little noisy, a good strong flush does help followed by oil change and add wynns valve lifter concentrate. then take it for at least a 15mile run to get the stuff up there

does sound increasingly like it is the pump giving you the problem,do you use supermarket fuel? this is known to give problems with not enough lubricant in the fuel to lube the pump, have you tried adding a little 2 stroke oil to the tank? this also helps!! if it starts well when cold with less than 20 litres in the tank then the intank pump is usually good, can you hear it when you first turn the igniton on?
leak off pipes if leaking will show up as wet pipes or a little puddle around the actual injector, if you are going to change one may as well do them all unless you have already done so, it also can be the long pipe that leads from the injector pump to the last leakoff giving problems which is damn difficult to see as its hidden by the inlet manifold , finally you can if your brave enough, try undooing the three nuts at the back of the pump, and moving it slightly to tweak the pump timing, just maybe it will sort out the 64 and the noise when its cold? be warned its tight to move owing to the injector pipes being metal!!should really be set with a guage but if the mileage is high you will have a little stretch in the chains anyway

finally  there is a how to on here bout how to change the actual pump without removing to much gear, may be worth a look
keep us updated !!

Found the "how too".... might be an option. Checked today the fuel filter for the lift pump, it was a little blocked, but not too bad. I don't use supermarket fuel, but run 50/50 diesel/veg oil (plenty of lubrication there i suspect)

Done the leak off pipes

Next step is to check something hasn't come adrift with my wiring esp. the fly by wire stuff which was chopped into the harness. I have a second harness now to make a better job of it.

Well it keeps me off the streets  ;D
