General Discussion Area / Getting free stuff from Virgin
« on: 05 May 2017, 13:04:22 »
A year has passed since we left them, I've rang and tried to get them to throw in the free TV that they give you with the mega monthly cost deals... anyone have any experience of getting freebies thrown in?

Currently with BT and the service is decent but price going up and up...

Looking at £30-35 pm for broadband and telly... but I'm a stingy git so if they have a pile of TVs to give out to customers, I want one. Should I ring them again and kick up more of a fuss? I have no shame but also limited effort if it won't get me anywhere ;)

MrsGK and I are yet again making a silly trip down south, this time staying in that most highly regarded establishment, the Buckingham Travelodge. With Tesco superstore and a choice of TWO fuel stations in walking distance...! Yes, I know how to treat a girl - so where can I take her for a decent early brekfast on Tuesday morning? Continental, Full English, or good old bacon butties...

Also local OOFers, look out for a pretty girl and egg-head bloke in a Jewish Racing Gold 190E, with Pistonheads smiley in the rear window... :y

As seen here, organised by Durham Automobile Club -

https://www.durhamautoclub.co.uk/page/upcoming-eve...

1100-1600 at Witton Castle, Witton le Wear, Co Durham DL14 0DE

- everything from 1950s and earlier, right up to "Millennials".

New show for this year, in support of a good cause, show your support!

MrsSE and I will be taking at least a couple of the fleet... wonder if there'll be an award for "shoddiest arch so-called repair" for the MV6 ;)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Bridge rectifiers... why?
« on: 12 April 2017, 16:03:59 »
I have in my workshop a pair of bridge rectifiers, IIRC removed from the headlamps of my old ex plod.

Im wondering if theyll ever be useful - I assume it was to do with the wigwags or strobes, given they were spliced into the headlamp feeds from what I remember and have left over...?

Just doing the annual "give me some discount" dance and realised we didn't update the policy when MrsGK swapped jobs - saved 10% as a result, before any other haggling! Worth a check if you've changed industry... :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Courtesy light wiring
« on: 03 April 2017, 19:00:38 »
I'm sure I'm losing the plot... I seem to remember reading about one of the pins on the courtesy light going live when the doors open. Before I start buggering about with a multimeter, does anyone know which one off the top of their head?

As usual the car and the meter are both, independently, several miles from me at the moment...

General Discussion Area / Londoners! Travel advice?
« on: 10 March 2017, 21:40:18 »
Saturday eve, probably around 2130 - to get to Dagenham... M1-M25-A13 or A1-M11-North circular-A13?

Or will it not make a blind bit of difference and we'll end up sat in traffic either way?

Omega General Help / Drill through a level sensor... possible?
« on: 09 March 2017, 15:42:52 »
I have an old level sensor laid about for experimenting. What would happen if I drilled through so as to put a nut and bolt with washers, so as to keep it in place?
Will it knacker the electronic magic bits? I assume so...

Police spec shocks, front are LP and RP idents, rears are WD.

Removed from my 2003 3.2 plod. Rough appearance and its been ages since he was on the road so unknown level of damping left. Were still decent in 2013...! £20 collected for all four before I skip them.

Also pair of front springs from the same, good condition,  £30 posted.

All removed because I've replaced with Bilsteins :y

Pic of dampers available via email... PM me.

General Discussion Area / Places to stay near Dagenham?
« on: 06 March 2017, 14:10:47 »
MrsGK and I are visiting Dagenham at short notice, Sunday morning. Any recommended places to stay within an hours drive? Cheap and nice preferred.
Also somewhere nice to eat on the way down from Teesside?

Eta - will be a late arrival and early departure so doesn't need many creature comforts...

Having discovered that one of Zeke's front pipes is split and the other is harder than a hard thing... anyone got a pair?

For clarity I need the two black bagpipes that go from front of throttle body onto the top of the multirams. Held on with hose clip each end - smaller at top than bottom. Black plastic. :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Finicky indicator repeater question
« on: 17 February 2017, 15:45:47 »
Ex-plod has the clear side indicators - since he is Moonland grey metallic in colour, I want rid of the orangey bit inside and just to use silver bulbs. Yes, I am incredibly picky. Before I start pulling yet more bits off him, is it actually possible to remove the orange coating?

(Yes I do have a hundred more important things to do...)

Forgot just how many bits of superglue were already holding the scuttle together on the explod - anyone got a good one they'd be willing to wrap up and post? Or one in a reasonable distance of Teesside for collection?

I'm also after the lower screen trim that covers the scuttle clips, the long rubber with metal teeth at each end.

Also a FL manual gearstick gaiter? Easier to post I must admit!

135
...as the process of bringing the explod back to life goes on, I am dimly* aware of the above fault occurring intermittently - being explod, the wiring has previously been butchered - worth popping the headlamp switch out and having a check that all is well behind there? Beyond that, radio out, dash out, checking for shorts?
