EMS Light
« on: 13 April 2010, 17:25:12 »

Hi there,

I am new to Omega ownage (is that even a word?).

Also a few years back I owned a 99' 2.0 GLS estate, which me and the wife loved and regretted seeling the second she drove off our drive.

I have owned 'Betty' my black 99' 2.0 CD for just 3 days, done aprox 150 miles in her, and am now getting the EMS light on on the dashboard when the car idles. When you pull off, it almost imediatly goes out.

I have contacted her previous owner who went to great pains to tell me he never had the problem, and the car was sold with no warranty.

Consulting the Vauxhall owners manual it says its only an issue if it stays on, is this correct?

I have heard talk of a paper clip test? what is this?

Many thanks

Lee

p.s would have posted in the FAQ section but it wouldnt let me at this time.

Thats the emissions light, often an indicator of either a cat on the way out or a mixture problem, given yours is only on for a short while at idle .. seems to me it might be the idle mixture is wrong, then gets corrected. Do the code read anyway and post up the results, and a full description of the problem, in "general help"

If you stick you car/engine details and location in your profile it saves you being asked a zillion times !!

Will run the test as soon as poss.

So the orange engine symbol is the emissions light?

Is the red light the EMS then?

Am I ok to drive at the moment? (I know I need to get problem sorted).
