'98 2.5 CD Alarm fault.....maybe?
« on: 19 February 2010, 21:24:08 »

Wish I'd found this forum sooner!

I've got a 1998 Omega 2.5 CD and luckily I don't have the usual problem of the alarm going off constantly...

Mine won't set or lock the car when I press the fob, the alarm 'self-diagnostic' is showing no faults (when alarm is set using the key in the door: red light on solid for 10 secs, then flashes after), I've tried a new battery in fob, still nothing, tried it in programming mode in case it had forgotten everything, still no joy. Checked all doors and boot are closed, tested power sounder and alarm horn under scuttle, both work fine.

Also, if I lock it with the key the alarm will set and CL works fine, but if I unlock it with the key the alarm goes off until I put the ignition on, which my neighbours don't really appreciate at 5:30 every morning, so until I have some luck with it the car remains OPEN ALL NIGHT on the street outside my house   :'(

Any help at all is massively appreciated.

Welcome to the forum
Does the led flash when you press either button? The battery contacts on the pcb have a tendancy to fail, or the fob just needs re-sync'ing ..... key in ignition, ignition on, press one or theother button & the locking should lock & them immediately open! That's it!
In the mean time, open the back door (with keys in hand!  ;) and lean through to lock the driver's door. This'll lock your car without the alarm  :y

Don't go leaving it unlocked....

lock the doors using the push buttons in the doors (obviously need to do the drivers 1st, then leave via rear or passenger door)

hey presto, car locked, and not alarmed :y

guess you need to get the car on a good diag computer to read the alarm log and see whats going on

Hi, thanks, and thanks again for the quick reply!

Yeah the fob flashes fine just as it did when it worked (BTW the fob is one that's part of the key, not the separate remote one if it makes any difference  :))

And thanks for the back door advice (so to speak), I'll go and lock her up now.
