isn't there a difference between tech2 and "My Naff Code Reader"(vxcom)?? this looks like "My Naff Code Reader" but i highly doubt that it will be any good
Oh, yes, a huge difference!
This is a proper Tech 2 :
http://www.auto-diagnostics.info/opel_tech2It is a proper dealer network service tool fully supported by GM.
Anything else on the market will be based on either the generic OBD protocols which allow only very basic code reading and live data, or on reverse-engineering the GM proprietary interfaces for doing more in-depth work such as firmware updates, key pairing and feature enable/disable.
This means that, whist some might have more advanced features, no other tools are really thrustworthy when it comes to programming systems in a car, because you're relying on a guy observing what a Tech 2 does and trying to figure out how to implement it himself. It is not unknown for ECUs to be bricked (rendered useless) by such tools due to errors in the implementation.
"My Naff Code Reader" is one of the better tools in this category but it is not marketed by that name in the UK so if you see it offered for sale you're buying either a ripped-off copy that isn't trustworthy or something else entirely sold under the "My Naff Code Reader" name.
I forget who markets the proper tool in the UK and under what name but suffice to say it's priced in the £500 region.
