that's what the fella said just as the sump fell off and covered him in smelly knackard ATF (that hadn't been changed in 80,000 miles)

remember that well, did mine on the very dirty floor of timbuk's old unit at last years cambelt do.

by leaving one side lightly bolted in, y0u can get a good sloshing motion going to mostly empty it.

I had next to no hair, and still took 7-8 washes to get it all out  ;D

I must've done well then. I only spilled oil as I filled it back up again. The tube I was filling from the engine bay had come out of the gearbox!  :(  ;D  ;D

This is why everytime I'm down the scrappy I have a look for something with an ally sump. I want to cut it out and get it tig'd into the large sump on my gearbox :y

Not impossible, but it's not nice welding ally sumps. The oil soaks into the ally.

Must confess it's a job I keep putting off :-[ :-[ ::) ::)

I think I may just pay someone to do it because I can't risk spilling all that oil on the road! :o :o

I used one of those big round oil trays from machine mart, but the dripping would cause some mess on a road, you would want a load of card / paper down to catch the drips, you may be under there some time, so no a job I would relish on a road, want the comfort and safety of a drive, even if sloped I would do it on a drive, and just use a level road for the final top up.

Safety isn't an issue on my road... I live at the very end of a cul-de-sac, miles from anywhere so traffic is virtually non-existent. TBH, I'll get the number of the guy my MOT tester (who's a mate too) sends all his AT work to as he's highly recommended and cheap!!

I'll just supply the parts and let him get on with it :y :y :y

If I organise it right I can drop the car off and get Johhnycboy to pick me up and make me a cuppa whist it's being done :y :y

I'm tempted to get a local garage to change it

I'll ask him how much if I supply materials

This reminds me of one of my projects - to put some sump plug bosses into the autobox sumps. I know what I'm going to be doing at my welding evening course next week.  :y

Ok guys, youve convinced me . With 125k on the clock and not sure if mines had an AFT change, will be booking it in to be done asap. Have nowhere to really do it myself as seems quite a messy job by all accounts!!
