B & Q
« on: 03 March 2007, 19:25:58 »

My local B&Q is moving to another site...in a couple of months....so at the moment they are trying shift all their stock bit by bit......its like a jumble sale in there at the mo  ;D
Nearly 1/2 the store is storage bins on tables with everything chucked in them....either 1/2 price or more off. Ive picked up a couple of items i needed at a well discounted price  :)

But i noticed today that they are flogging these

http://www.windsave.com/

for £1498 istallation included

A bit more research and found its possible to get a 30% grant from here

http://www.lowcarbonbuildings.org.uk/how/householders/

if you meet certain criteria......like already having loft insulation/wall insulation/etc which i do.

So im toying with the idea.....to do my bit to be a bit green.....i know payback time would be a long time.

If you bought one on a Wed £1498 - 10% = £1348.20 - 30% = £943.74  :D

But thought id mention it.....in case anyone else might be interested  :y

Dont do it TD! not unless you live on the top of a 10000ft hill. Even then, probably not.

There was a guy on our local telly on Thurs who bought one, it cost him dear and he was getting just enough out of it to power one 100W light bulb.

Even the company who flog them say they're only suitable for a small number of locations (At least, thats what they say now, after Watchdog got hold of them)

Said that grant finished by 11 o'clock 1st of the month.

Also they don't seem to like gusts of wind.  - lager & brussels should fix that  ;D

Not a hope of getting your money back IMO. 1000 quid is a lot of leccy you've got to generate!

If you want to do it for the environment & sod the expense then fine but on this small scale it's doubtful if the device will be carbon neutral given the environmental cost of building it and shipping it around the country / world and their relatively limited life!

Yep. A certain amount of money is allocated each month, and it's gone in a flash. Don't bank on getting the grant.

Before you go any further i would double check with your local Councils' Planning Dept.. As you may find that you require planning permission :y
