I've changed one on a saloon, but not an estate. Not sure if it's the same, but if you don't get any joy I'll try to help!
Not overly difficult tbh, just awkward.

I changed mv MV6 a few weeks back, I'm doing the Elite tomorrow if I get time.

Rob says estate is same as saloon, my two are saloons.

It's quite straightforward, and use of a creeper will make it much easier!  :y Jack up, get on stands. Chock the front wheels well, as obviously your handbrake won't be in use. When car in air, release handbrake to 'fully down' position. It's easier I find to take the wheels off. Don't want to state obvious but make sure car is secure before you stick your body under it.

You need to take off the exhaust heat shields (4, 2 on each side). You will see the compensator bar where the main cable attatches to the two other cables in the prop shaft tunnel. Take note of how far the nut is screwed on here. Unscrew the nut and remove the thread off the main cable out of the compensator bar. On the wheel end, remove the h/b return spring on each side. Remove the cable from the lever thing that sticks out of the drum (it might be corroded on a bit - a little penetrating spray/wiggling/bashing will help). Now remove the handbrake cable assembly from the car by routing it through the exhaust/around chassis etc. You wil see where it needs to go. There are plastic clip things that it pops into - just un pop it.

Refit is a reverse of this. Making sure the nut on the thread is tightened the same distance as before so the handbrake is at the same position.

You can then adjust it according to the guide

Here is the guide for servicing the h/b. You will see pictures of the compensator bar and return spring.

My quick how to is only from memory a few weeks back. If I get round to doing the elite tomorrow I'll take some pics for ya. But once ya get ya head under you'll be able to see it's quite straighforward.

you can adjust it up nice and tight without replacing it. Assuming the shoes are in godd nick, and you don't want to fully service it, you can adjust the star adjusters on each wheel.

Yes, if you're not replacing cable, servicing h/b or replacing shoes, you can tighten the h/b up by adjusting the star adjusters on each side, assuming the shoes are ok and the lining hasn't come off. Obviously best to fully service it though. Don't forget when adjusting star adjusters, they tighten in different directions on different sides if that makes sense?

...only I can't remember which way on which side so I'll have a bit of fun tomorrow 'remembering!

I changed my rear discs and the shoe were ok, I couldn't adjust the compensator bar (too tight) so I adjusted it at the "Star" adjusters and my lever was at a nice height.
Since then, my H/B lever is slowly creeping higher!!!! I'm gonna need to change my cable too...

There are all disc at rear, with shoes inside the disc/drum that are operated by the handbrake lever.
