Vauxhall Batteries - Warranty?
« on: 18 February 2010, 13:20:44 »

The previous owner of my 3.2 put a new Vx battery (the blue GM one, not the GO type) on the car.  Must have been about 2 years ago - I think I have the receipt in the file at home.

Its failing when the car has been sitting for a few days.

Does anyone know what the warranty on these is and if it is transferrable across owners? and indeed if it would be honoured by any Vx dealer or just the one that supplied it.

Used to be 3 years. Should be honoured at any VX dealership. Not sure about transferrable but if you got the receipt ::)
I assume you`ve already done this http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1225724099

get a volt meter out and check what volts is reaching the battery, mine had a poor terminal connection on the battery resulting in it not getting enough charge, and dying within a few days....

Warranty

All GM parts are warranted a minimum of 12 months, unlimited mileage. All GM warranties are Europe-wide and cover both parts and labour. In the unlikely event that a GM parts develops a fault due to a material or manufacturing defect, simply call the service department of any Vauxhall or Opel dealer who will arrange to have the part replaced and fitted free of charge.

Certain parts enjoy a longer than twelve months warranty period as follows:

Clutches - 2 years, unlimited mileage

Exhausts - 2 years, unlimited mileage

Shock absorbers - 2 years, unlimited mileage

VXPRO remanufactured starter motors and alternators - 2 years/unlimited mileage

Batteries - 3 years, unlimited mileage

above is from the trade club web site.

They usually take the old one off you and send it off, while you by another and wait and see if you get your money back.

Well, took the powersounder out last night, so we'll see how it behaves.

Has anyone found a source of replacement rechargeables for the powersounder?  Mine has 2 3.6V Varta batteries (NiMH I think).

Thanks JB.  I found that and mine look like the same as Chris's - the green NiMH ones rather than button cells.

It looks like Maplin may have them..

I think you'll find they have 3 pins whereas the originals have 4. They can be bodged to fit though. ::)

Keep meaning to find an exact replacement.

I had the luxury of being given a brand spanking new powersounder so the old one naturally got carved in half.

It has two Z3A 120 a la.  I take it you remove the spring-loaded contacts and solder straight to the board?  Or are there two types of powersounder?

If you take a look at
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1240077701
you can see the two different types. I think yours is the first one (NiCd) from the sound of it.

Ah yes.  Exactly.
Now I'm wondering which type I've fitted to the car!!!  Let's hope it outlasts my ownership. :)
