IOS / iPhone question
« on: 19 August 2017, 11:33:58 »

I've had I phones for years and always keep a eye on the Health app which records steps / millage.

I have noticed that my old one (4s) seem top clock up as much as 50% more steps / millage as the newer (5se) one  :-\
This is after doing the same dog walk every morning that I have done fro the last 10 year.
The phone is always in the same pocket too  :-\

Any ideas ?

I didnt think the old 4s had the capability, thought it came in with the later ones?
Do you have a fitbit or something linked to it?

No
Nothing linked at all  :)

4s is running ios 8. something
5se is running whatever's latest version for that phone.

Hi Steve,

There are two models, 5S & SE, but no 5SE. Which one do you have as that might help.

Thanks - Rob

Just checked, the 4S cannot read your steps natively, but can if you install a pedometer app.
The later phones have a motion sensor which do it automatically.

So my best guess is youve installed something on the phone which uses the GPS to guestimate the amount of steps, where as the new one is monitoring your motion to count them.

It shows on the app marked health Jimbob
Never installed any apps like that or used any other devices.

Easy answer:

One is really inaccurate.
The other is just inaccurate.

Up to you which you believe ;) ;D
