General Discussion Area / Poor Big Blue!
« on: 21 February 2012, 21:38:38 »
My poor car is having to be very tolerant towards my blatant lack of attention to signs!  ::)

Saturday night, off clubbing in Chester with friends, parked up in a car park I've used hundreds of times and off we toddle.  Arrive back to collect car at 2 a.m. only to find that the car park is now locked from 11 - 6.30 at weekends!  Sign is smaller than A4 with very faded print!  Bugger, can see Big Blue but can't get to her!  :(

Had to treat my poor car to a nice bubble bath to apologise! :-*

Today.  Driving along a road that we use frequently and therefore know to be a national speed limit, within said limit as patrol car behind me.  Flashing blue lights, oops!  Nice Mr police man asks if I realise that it's now a 50 mph limit and I was breaking it.  Apologise profusely and explain that when I drove it yesterday it was still a national and I hadn't seen any new signs.  Sent on my way with the suggestion that I may like to be slightly more observant.  Phew! :-[
Had a good look and the speed signs have changed but no warning of a new speed limit which they seem very fond of doing around here! :(

So that's 2 incidents this week, wonder what'll be next?? :-[

General Car Chat / Aargh power sounder!
« on: 06 December 2011, 14:16:09 »
Some of you may remember my red MV6 catching fire due to a knackered power sounder! :(

Anyway gets in Big Blue this morning, starts her up and off goes the power sounder - total panic as to why we didn't think to check that it had been removed! ???

Anyway after a paranoid morning at work waiting for the fire to break out, got home and Jimbob removed the offending article. :-*

On first inspection it looked like the outer was corroded but on opening it up inside seemed to be in good condition.

A check of the alarm log showed no trigger so sounder had just gone off of its own accord.

Suspect we've had a lucky escape!

......enjoy your week in the bodyshop!

Dropped her in this morning to have some bits of body work sorted out.  Mainly the roof and tailgate but there's a couple of bits on the bottoms of her arches too.

Here's hoping she looks even nicer when she comes back! :)

General Car Chat / MOT time for my 98 MV6....
« on: 26 July 2011, 16:46:19 »
.....any guesses on failures / advisaries?

I'm guessing there might be some welding required as her bodywork is rusting nicely so maybe underneath is too. :(
We were advised to have the exhaust welded when I had geometry done but then promptly forgot about it, oops! :-[

MOT's tomorrow, place your bets.

General Discussion Area / Blue Badge Question?
« on: 01 August 2011, 15:40:29 »
Our son is registered disabled and has a Blue Badge.
My car is registered as a disabled vehicle.

As we have 2 cars the badge gets swapped about frequently and is occasionally left in the car that he's not in.  As my car is registered disabled, can I legitimately park in a disabled bay without displaying the blue badge when he is with me as my tax disc clearly states that it's a registered disabled vehicle?
I haven't done but the thought crossed my mind earlier when the only bay left in an over full car park was a disabled one.

General Discussion Area / Bath, Sink or Bog?
« on: 01 August 2011, 20:04:13 »
Our cat has just crapped himself in his cat box during a trip to the vets....

Question is do I..

1. Wash his paws in the sink and then apply huge amounts of plasters to myself,
2. Go the whole hog and attempt to bath him, thus taking the risk of having to buy a new bath,
3. As per Jimbobs suggestion: tip shampoo into the bog, insert cat, close lid and flush.  Then open front door, lift lid and stand well back?

Any tips on how to wash a cat anyone?  ;D ;D ;D
