Just another step towards autonomous vehicles.Meanwhile it must surely take marques such as Bugatti,Lamboughini,Ferrari etc at least close to if not over the edge?Get ready to stock up on your Ford Sts VXRs etc.as surely there'll be no point paying extra for the "fast" one of the range if it won't go any faster than the bog basic slug of the range?

In a free society we are free to break the law and the state has the right to punish us if we are caught doing so.
When this happens it is one of the more obvious signs that we are far from a free society now.
Old cars will rocket in value, so hang on to them.

I have been saying this is the future for years now.
Enjoy it now while you can. Speed, vicious acceleration and braking and cornering, crossing the white line to straighten corners will all be a thing of the past. Thrills will be got at theme parks or online. I also predict charging for how you drive, when and how many in the vehicle. Mind you I also predict preparing meals at home will be a thing of the past with meal bars instead being dispensed from a machine based on your work output, weight etc.

Similarly, hasn't Japan had a limit on max speed for ages :-\ Besides unofficially everything is limited to a Vmax of 155mph already.
Most road fatalities are caused by stupidity rather than speed. Driving at 150 an empty motorway is inherently safer than parking in the same place as Terry's sister or my Nan ::)

Yup,, its already been said it will be a switchable system, that can also be overridden by acceleration.

The intention must surely be to make it non switchable in future generations. Otherwise its a pointless gimmick.
It may even be planned to have the vehicle linked to a database which automatically prosecutes the driver.
Its all perfectly possible, they just need to soften us up for acceptance first.

I was speaking to a twenty something snowflake recently who said the Isle of Man TT should be banned because it is dangerous........OFFS.... :-X

And is used for disciplinary purposes. Said company also automatically shares with the DVSA.
Safety First and all that :-X

Yup,, its already been said it will be a switchable system, that can also be overridden by acceleration.
Its based on standard ADAS forward facing cameras.
If you chose to turn it on (with current vehicles), it 'limits' your speed on the assumption that it has correctly read the speed limit sign OR the satnav database is up to date.....if you floor it you get a ping and it exceeds the limit. Reality is that the limits change and the satnav is not updated plus speed signs, if dirty or obscured, don't get read!
I expect the change will be for the system to default to on and need turning off at every ignition cycle (as per the legislation that pushes stop/start that way)....then maybe on with no off option

Also it's not just a speed limiter they're on about,there's the "boozelock"[that could be a good thing]and the system will also decide whether you're drowsy or not paying enough attention-don't know what happens if you're on the motorway and it figures you're too tired to drive? and also a "black box"operating on similar principles to those fitted in aircraft-but who's to say it's only recording/storing info and not downloading it somewhere?

No worries Mate, I be going on a Walk About Down Under and get myself a proper Vauxhall V8 that doesnt have all this Poffie Palava Tech on it, the only Restriction it will have will be TC with a Button marked On/Off.

Overiding the limiter on trucks now, isn't as widespread as it was, having a "wire- switch" fitted not very common, most use a magnet... Tangs are exempt... ;)

Let me go find the video of the tests of those ..
.. the one where the BMW consistently fails to stop and mows the pedestrian down with gay abandon :o (Everything else stops just fine so clearly some work needed there on the part of ze Germans; perhaps they need to speak to ze Sveeds)
Going back a few posts - the Skoda used to have a "drowsiness detector".. it was .. quite accurate. And very annoying.

That reminds me .. you parked next to me on Tuesday morning (until the Pious taxi had moved and I could get out, anyway). I'd have said hello but it was the morning after the other thread topic, so I wasn't feeling in a chatty mood :/

BMW and the Swedes all use the BOSCH ADAS so they should all be similar......that said I also recall a Volvo video of it not working to!

Nobody has ever yet died of speed. Its always been the slowing down.
If the do gooders do insist on such shite, lets just go completely autonomous. I vote Tesla's system, that should help with the cull.

It will happen, it's got to. But.....I reckon you're looking at a good 10-15 years before all the 'stuff' is in place for it to work, and we'll probably all be gender neutral, coffee coloured folk by then.

Ahh! I did wonder, although at the time, I was mid way through my internal rant about fuŁking taxi drivers so mind wasn't really engaged ;D.
I've done 1200 miles in it now :o ought to post an update... very nearly got screwed over by the public charging infrastructure today, landed at work with about 4 miles of range... ::)
