How do i insure my ex police 3.2 manual
« on: 16 April 2009, 14:49:37 »

Hi all. new to all this, just a quick question, struggling to find an insurer to insure a ex police 3.2 manual estate. they say they cannot as they dont exist. I know they never made them for usual public but only for police, Any help would be great as run into a brick wall with this one.

It really is not a problem, as many members with MV6's on here will vouch for.

It is an Omega MV6, that's it!   Police ownership is rated as just previous owner, so your MV6 is like any other car to be insured, I think as a category 16, as it really does officially exist. ;) ;)

Find another insurance company for a quote! :D ;)

EDIT:  I almost forget, a big hello and a very warm welcome to you Alan! :y :y

Hello & Welcome,
which companies have you tried?

sure I had quotes no probs a few years ago when I nearly bought one.

Think the issue here is on the car selector type quoters

3.2, no manual option was available to the public so they may not have coded it.

A reg no look up one should work though  :-/

Hi,

Welcome to the best members club for Omega owners.

I never had a scrap of trouble insuring mine with Co Op Insurance.

All insurers will check with national database anyway so they will see it listed as "special auto"

It is really only a MV6 Omega for insurance purposes.

hi lizzie zoom, having much the same problem trying to get quotes for my 1998 opel-b-caravan aka 2.5 td auto estate it was imported in 2001 by a vauxhall dealer & rebadged as a vauxhall omega 2.5 complete with vauxhall handbook. apparently to all the online insurers this vehicle does not exist. if you have any joy let me know & i,ll do likewise for you. ps it is righthand drive.

Hello Bikermike and a very warm welcome to you! :y

It is as shown on the V5 document, and that is what should be quoted to the insurance companies you seek quotes from.  As Vauxhall / Opel means really the same, i.e. the brands of GM, then I cannot see why an insurance company says "it don't exist".  After all 2.5td Estates are real enough as you can prove! ;)

If the person on the phone really does keep on stating this ask to speak to the underwriters, who I know from the few months I spent with Cornhill Direct are in an office dealing with such queries. 8-) 8-)

I would also speak to AA insurance and the like who act as brokers and I am sure they will overcome any problem. ;)
