Omega General Help / Re: Omega 3.2 compression issue
« on: 04 May 2016, 01:02:44 »
Results so far are
number 1 cylinder 113 psi,
number 3 cylinder 110,
number 5 cylinder 160 psi.
Cylinder 2 120 psi
Cylinder 4 100 psi
Cylinder 6 190 psi
did you test it when warm?  for the 3.2 the compression should be in the range 161-202 psi.  If cold probably take off 15psi maybe more so that's 146-187.   max 15psi difference between cylinders.  harris can tell you all night about wet leaks and where they come from ;) but your figures, coolant loss and the persistent mayo look like a leaking head gasket even though such a thing 'never happens on v6s' .  could be something else but those are not good figures. what mileage is it?

Bit of an understatement there - those figures are crap.  At best you have failed head gaskets (both banks), or all/any of the other culprits eg broken/worn piston rings, knackered valves, worn/damaged bores etc, on both banks.  Despite relatively "low" mileage, fraid its nackered.

Best suggestion is to bin it and fit a replacement engine.

Estate vs Saloon - very much personal choice.

Had both, as said "Omega Estates are amazing load carriers"

No probs - save you a wasted 20 mile journey ;)

You're better off buying either a GM kit, or a Contitech/Gates/SKF via a factor or online, than looking for a real cheapo on ebay.

I wonder why they advertised that as fitting an Omega 2.5?

Will it fit a 2.2? Jonny's 2.2 is due a cambelt change.
Returning to e-bay Vehicle Parts I found redlinecarparts offering an Omega 2.5 tining kit at £26.50. Man says it will fit my car. Furthermore he is in Somerset, in fact in Cheddar, 10 miles away. I might fit it this weekend yet.

Don't think thats a complete kit - check their web site!!  Belts on their own are around that price, kits are around £150. ;)

If it helps I've used a gasket set bought for a 2.5V6 on a 2.6V6 without any problems.

This is now up for sale, but I don't have nearly enough posts to put up a thread on here, so not sure on the etiquette with that...

Not etiquette, against the rules  ;)

Always hankered after a TR6 and a V8 Esprit

Here's my '69 TR6, which I ran as my daily driver very early 70s - two kids forced sale unfortunately - replaced by 3Lit Mk1 Granada Ghia.  You can just see the kids seats which were bolted in the back.

Probably brought a heep of trouble here . . .but you never know  ::) ::)

Got hold of a fair condition   2001  4.0  Jaguar Sovereign  for peanuts .  MOT until December . . no previous problems on the MOT history, only silly previous

advisories like  tyres, wipers , number plate light etc.   Autobox all seems good ,big problem with these I think.  same owner last 12 years ( he's just brought a

newer one  ;)  Has reams of history from his ownership. Would not let it go in part ex as offer was insulting he said.   EML is on with a small intermittant misfire

Biggest problem  ?   how am I going to hide this on the drive  without SWMBO seeing it    ::) ::) ::)

Let you know more when it comes home next Saturday  . . .if I'm alive to tell   :) :)

Hi Al - glad to see you're coming to your senses at last!!   ;) ;) :y  You know it makes sense.  Hope it goes ok for you

Likewise, but got mine a few years back.  Well used now (well some of the bits, not all), and still ok.  Think I paid around £2 for my set.

And as for your "practising Onanist" comment, suggest you look closer to home - I live with my partner, not my mother, and despite my advancing years, she and I have no problems in that area.  My eyesight is good, but suggest you may be in need of an eye test!!!  ;) ::)
