Centre Console Lights
« on: 01 August 2007, 12:54:37 »

I've got a 1998 2.5 CDX. The orange leds for the window controls are permanently lit, even with the ignition off. Not really a problem since it doesn't affect the battery over the space of a week. But I have also noticed that the leds for the gear selector position work fine in the daytime when the lights are off but not at all at night with the lights turned on. This is not very useful! Any ideas?

For the window lights, Do they stay active even after you open and close the drivers door?
On normally means they are active and ready to work.
Ive heard of the gearbox one, but dont know a solution sorry.

My Cavalier had this issue with the windows switches staying lit with the ignition off, drivers door closed etc.  I traced this to the drivers door switch making a poor electrical contact with ground.  I unscrewed the switched, used a small engineers round file to clean the dirt from the hole and refixed the switch with a new self tapping screw.  This cured the issue.

Regarding the gearbox lights - this apparently is a sign of the switch under the car beginning to fail.  There are a few threads on here about this.  Marks DTM is the real expert on this and I am sure that he will provide input shortly :y

Hope this helps

Thanks - I will try the drivers door switch. I have noticed that the courtesy light doesn't always work so that may be the problem for window leds.
