Which oil recommended for 2.5td?
« on: 25 February 2011, 13:01:36 »

Just brought this up in another post, but thought i'd attract the right attention in this post.

Want to know what people think the best oil for the 2.5td at 112k is?
Just had it changed because it was due, but want to know what to put in it for the next one.

thanks

Always used GM 10w-40 semi in mine at least every 4-5k miles with a filter change. I think most will recommend the GM stuff on here.

GM 10/40 semi-synthetic every time mate! :y

Ours gets changed every 2.5k miles due to lots of local journeys.
Costs around the 40 quid mark from Vx for 4 x 5-litre cans on Trade.

Sump capacity is 6.5 litres on the 2.5TD. ;)

And with that in mind, seeing as you are so close to me, any chance i could pick some up from you in future if you're a regular buyer?
Would make my life easier, now i have to change it so often lol.

£20 a year gets you an Autobahnstormers trade card .. at which point Vx 10W40 becomes exceedingly good value....

Normal price : Retail 5ltrs £28.10 - Trade club 5ltrs £11.60

which is pretty good, HOWEVER, trade club has a "buy 3 get 4" offer on .. so

4X5ltrs Retail = 4X£28.10 = £112.40 .. but you pay just for 3 = £34.80   a saving of £77.60 !!!!!!!! (Don't forget to add VAT @ 20% to those prices)

I make the VAT included prices : retail £134.88, TC £41.76......  Total saving £93.12.... less the £20 the TC costs  ... saving £73.12 on the very first visit and only buying oil..... buy parts and filters etc and the savings mount ... :)

then click on "Club Info" then "how to join"

Yup .. its a Vx run thing for traders and affiliated clubs.

ABS (autobahnstormers) is an affiliated club.

OOF cannot be affiliated as it does not charge a membership fee / have a committee / AGM / constitution . These are prerequisites for affiliation.

HTH  :)

Don't think all dealers accept it though. When I asked the local one here, he didn't seem to know what I was talking about and muttered something about giving me 10% :-/

Just went and spoke to local vauxhall dealership (2 miles away from me), they said they were more than happy to accept trade club, and they said if anything they actively encourage the members activity of affiliated groups and the upkeep of older models through such means.

Seem like a nice bunch. So i'll be getting my bits from there once my trade club is sorted

thanks

once you 'know' your dealer, they may well sign you up on trade anyway

I used the ABS card for a year, built up a good relationship, I asked for a 'real' one, and they gave me one, and an account with decent credit, so I never even pay till the next month for anything now.  :y

Well THAT is cool lol
I'll be going here for all my parts and oil etc
So this may happen, seeing as they were so keen to support the clubs as well.
