Post 1 and it a call for help....doh!
« on: 03 January 2009, 22:12:49 »

Hello

I suppose I should start with a hello and then tell you I'm currently  subcribing to the bangernomicts school of thought. Its kept me on the road for over 2 years for less than a grand. Last time the bucket I was driving got to the end of its MOT I got shot of it and landed myself an Omega. I had no idea what I had just bought, the drive home left me with a massive smile on my face.

Anyway I have a manual '95 3.0 elite estate with 112k on the clock. Inside the car, its in really good nick. I know little about engines but seemed to leak a little oil but everything else seemed to be fine. Small bits of rust on the outside but nothing major. It did need 4 new tyres (£30 each) and new front pads and disks, bought on ebay for less than £100 after a scary month of driving.  I have had it for 7 months with no new problems. But in the run up to crimbo (MOT ran out on the 26th) it developed a coolant leak. I kept that and the oil topped up. then a couple days before xmas the engine cuts out if I rev it over 2500. Safe to say that wiped the smile clean off my face.

So now its MOT is out and I've SORNed the lad and have probibly the biggest engine, most fun, bast car I've ever owned. The way I've been doing things for the last couple years says I should not spares and repairs the car or scrap it. But I find myself thinking 'mayby I can fix it'. Haynes manual out and a few days later I am no closer to knowing why its not reving above 2500.

From reading the forums I figure the oil leak is probibly the head gasket since there is pools of oil in the bit with the spark plugs.
The coolant leak is coming from the back of the engine, I hope thats coming from a split pipe.

There is a couple other things wrong with it but I've looked at haynes and think I can handle it.

Anyway if you can help save me from bangernomics click this link and post there, If not hello to you anyway.

"Hello" and welcome :)

Couple of points ... ask your tech questions in "General Help" .. a lot more technically savvy folks read there than here .. :)

Stick your location in your profile .. saves being asked lots and someone "who knows" may live near you  . :)

First thing to do is to "paperclip it ...

Hello and a warm welcome to you! :y :y

As for the oil leak it is most likely to be your cam cover gaskets that need replacing. ;) ;)

Welcome and best of luck ---- at first glance nowt seems that serious -- better to stick with the help these guys can offer -- Haynes is notoriously unhelpful!
