Smoking ban in cars....the PC brigade's at it again!!
« on: 16 November 2011, 11:03:44 »

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-15744352

So the do gooders are at it again!! Not happy with banning smokers from nearly everywhere except their own homes, these rather do gooders are trying to make it illegal to smoke in our own bought and paid for environment.....our own cars!!  >:( >:(
Now I know there are probably a fair few non-smokers on here that may or may not agree with this ridiculous proposal but at the end of the day smokers have rights too for chrissake (yes, I am a smoker ::)). This is just more nanny state crap from tossers who really don't live in the real world. >:( Wether you choose to smoke, drink or indulge in any other form of enjoyment, why do we need these idiots to tell us what to do? Oh, and I'd love to know how they expect our already overstretched police to reinforce such a ban. ::)

Im an ex smoker.I hate the smell of stale tobacco in a car,but these fascists have no right whatsoever to tell people what they can or cant do in their own cars.I wouldnt want to sit in a car with a pile of fresh dogsh1t on the back seat either, but that doesnt mean that some power crazy d1ckhead has the right to make a law against it.If you dont like the smell (or exaggerated health risk) associated with a persons car - catch a bus, dont legislate their individuality out of existence. >:(

Never smoked, although I'm tempted to try a cigar one day  :-\

Hated smoke in pubs, clothes stinking of it, generally pubs/bars have low ceilings & when your 6ft5 you end up with your head in the smoke!

I liked that ban personally, in cars however, cannot see the point. Its your car, your choice. Its not affecting anyone else  :-\

I also agree that it's a step too far, smokers have to be able to relax in their own cars, and I'm a non-smoker who hates it. If I'm in a smoker's car, they can smoke as much as they want, I'm in their 'property'

Just to add.....I don't very often smoke in my car apart from long journey's in which case I'll open the window, and I certainly don't do it with kids or non-smoking pasengers, but I don't need these idiots to tell me. >:(

Its little to do with health, and everything to do with control. The Tories should have been well into the process of dismantling the apparatus of this semi fascist state by now. >:(

Personally I feel that if using your phone or drinking coffee at the wheel is not allowed then why should smoking be?

I personally do not do either of those thing Matt, but I don't find smoking a distraction when driving. I think sneezing while driving is probably more of a distraction and has been known to cause accidents, so are they going to ban that?!! Where do you draw the line? I think good old common sense needs to be used rather than bullying tactics. ::)

You normally have the ciggy either in your mouth or between your fingers, but it doesnt prevent you from having both hands on the wheel 99% of the time.

I Dont smoke, but dont have a problem with it either, and do enjoy a cigar now and again (read 2-3 a year tops)

What worries me is the increased road rage from those addicted to their nicotine fix....Wont be pleasant on the road with 'a lot of deprived addicts' about behind the wheel - and no offence intended at all to any smokers in that statement.
