measure both diagonals and make sure they are the same length - they should be 12ft 2.5 inches

I'm expecting mine to increase dramatically  :'(

some insurers will increase their premiums after a claim, other will not.  My parents had a water leak - £70k claim as they were homeless for 6 months.  the insurer who paid the claim wanted £2000 renewal.  I got another insurer for £200 AND declared the claim to them so all honest etc

standard B& C unless crap area or or you are trying to insure accidental damage ( that's costs a packet because insurers know you'll try it on) should be £200 ish

Basically the supermarket has to remedy the damange - to fully make good the repaid.  My view is that you should seek a quotation for the work yourself.  If you are not happy with the insurers offer on behalf of the supermarket, I suggest you write to the supermarket explaining that you hold them liable for the value of your quote (which you must demonstrate is reasonable both in the work being done and the cost).  If the insuers will not cough up then threaten with court action.  They will not want the cost of court action so very likely to agree with you

Unfortunately they, the insurers are very good in trying to fob people off and only when someone fights back to they take notice

she should ask her lease company  in three year time for proof of no claims status - they will then confirm she has driven and not claimed.  At that stage a new insurer should accept the evidence together with the expired 9 years.  however each insurer is different so you'll need to check the rules they apply at the time.

I'm waiting to get shot down here but generally speaking, as long as you know what you are doing, just get on with making the changes.  nobody polices this and anyone have the temerity to tell you what you are doing is wrong/illegal etc, I'm sure they can be pursuaded to remove themself from your vicinity promptly.  That's the approach I tend to take and it seems to work ok

took a set of those off the front end of an audi A6.    let's say before I took them off trying to stop the thing was frightening.  replated with ATE and the difference showed how dangerous the APEC stuff was.   avoid APEC

sounds like trade not trade club prices.  or worse still

I'm working on getting TC account myself. If I manage it, I may be able to offer a similar deal to Andy C

« on: 02 August 2013, 20:27:52 »
ok  my advice is that you don't need a tree surgeon but a tree executioner.  There is no great skill in getting lelandii out, just brute force, same for poplars

I had a dozen 30 ft poplars taken out in a day for £200 roots as well.

A lelandii of that size I'd pull with a tractor ( if you can get to it).  the root ball will pop out.

Best advice is to find a local farmer

having been there with insurers on a major flood, I share your frustration.

first of all the loss adjuster is there to minimise the claim value - not to look after you.  Loss assessors can work for you but they're just as parasitic as loss adjusters and will charge you pounds!

Second, don't worry about the arrangements between builders and loss adjusters.  If there are backhanders it is not out of your pocket.  BUT make best friends with the builders when they turn up because if they want to do extra and say " it must be done because of Blah, blah" it is very hard for the loss adjuster to say no.

THird, the loss adjuster should be arranging for site clearance, building quites etc.  that's what you pay for.  If he is not then write to the insurer, not the loss adjuster and complain that he is frustrating the claim and if it continues you'll place a formal complaint with the insurer and the insuance ombudsman.  ( They hate the latter because no matter who's at fault, the insuer has to pay for it.)

in terms of content, create an inventory or everything and identiy its replacement at full market value ( i.e. internet order including delivery or high street price).  Accept cash settlement to full market value only.

I have 3 months of blazing rows with a loss adjuster, he finally realised the only way of getting  the job done and getting an easy life was agreeing to reasonable demands.  (from his point of view he ended up working evenings and weekends to respond to me which he hated - found out it was easier to agree).  I also made sure that the claim was 100% true so he could not block it anywhere.

General Discussion Area / Re: b&q unbelievable
« on: 25 July 2013, 07:35:06 »
check the small print but general position is :

b& Q entered into a contract to supply at a price

payment has been made so B&Q should deliver.  If they cannot then they can be held for consequential loss

consequential loss is money back or worse for them, cost of rewplacement goods.

suggest firm letter to head office settin timescales to resolve problems ( say 2 weeks for B&Q to suggest a solution)  at the end of two weeks, another letter saying " a further week or this goes to court, please respond"  followed by a small claims

the latter will probably galvanise action.  Unfortunately big business these days seems to rely on fobbing people off and not paying up.
