2.0 XEV fault codes.
« on: 22 July 2011, 21:25:04 »

I 've got a bad misfire and tried to check for fault codes using the paperclip test.
No flashing at all .
Now I've done this test before some years ago on this car  but for some reason in the file where I have the under dash connector photos I also have photos of the triangular relay box at the battery .
There's something in my memory about connecting the paperclip into terminals in that box .
Two questions ,
If there are no fault codes stored on a early '00 Facelift 2.0 would that mean no flashing or should there be an intro series of flashes to confirm interrogation ?
I've read TB's guide where it says .
"Note: Systems using 2 digit codes (2.5/3.0 and earlier 2.0), the system flashes a 1-2 (12) 3 times to indicate start of sequence. Systems using 4 digit codes (later 2.0l), there is no start of sequence - it starts flashing out fault codes (if any) immediately."

Is there a port in the triangular relay box that can also be used to interrogate the ECU ?
Thanks all .

the code reader port is the same one you are using a paperclip with, no other sockets, the one youve found is the fan test connector  :y

Fault found , No 1 plug lead.
Looked perfect externally  but changing them out one at a time eliminated the problem. :y
Tried several times to get a code read out with engine running and off  but no flashing at all so I'm hoping that that means no fault codes . :-/
