Auto box filters and gaskets
« on: 05 February 2008, 19:30:02 »

Ordered a replacement filter and sump gasket set for my automatic gearbox from Dave Kember who advertises in the back of straight 6 news. It arrived today so looks like I'm all set for a coiffure en huile de boîte de vitesse at the weekend, or maybe at Telford if I don't get round to it.

Cost was 30 quid plus postage (35 total IIRC).  :y

Does he do a cheap DIS? I might not make it to Telford if I don't get one. Hopefully it will have dried out tomorrow, if not I'm off the road. (Happened suddenly tonight.)

If you haven't already had the level plug out I suggest you do so before dropping the sumps. The one on mine was ridiculously torqued (from the factory I assume) and a couple of other people on here have experienced the same.

Well worth making sure you can get it off before you need it off to refill!

Let me you know how you get on with the Fuch's ATF.  :y

Will do. :y

A shot or two of Plus Gas on the plug is probably a good idea then.

Yeah, it'll be with a certain amount of trepidation, seeing as at 62k it's behaving impeccably, but I think it's got to be done. :-/

Tempted to get one myself ready for Telford, Don't think my box is as good as it should be, plus plenty of help for if when I get stuck.

If there are a few of us planning on this, is it worth getting a couple of thrust washers just in case?  and Is there expertise available to change them?
