Presumably you have HIDs (if not, your MID is misconfigured).  It means the system is no longer automatically adjusting headlamp height.

Often caused by faulty sensors (one at front, one at rear), or a problem with the levelling servo/feedback system.

The sensors are mounted on n/s front wishbone and n/s rear trailing arm.

and they're £51 each :(
I'll keep  acknowledging  mine for a while

You need Tech II really to read the fault. It's the rear sensor that FUBAR'd on mine and I get the message within a minute or so of switching on the ignition whether the head lights are on or not, if that's of any help.

Exactly what I thought. After I'd had my car Tech II'd I phoned the dealer and ordered one, and just asked as an aside really how much they were! I cancelled the order! :-?

Strangely, I think thats quite cheap.....I suppose thats coz I have seen all the gubbins inside one!

Its well worth cleaning all the pivot points and checking all the connectors and wires also....

So have I! It's another £50 I could better spend on something else at the minute though. It's just a pity that Vauxhall/whoever made them couldn't have put a spot of lubricant on the ball/sockets of the pivots. When I removed the link arm from the rear the ball was rusty so consequently it damaged the seal of the cup that should've stopped water from getting in in the first place.
Strangly though the height my head lights aim don't appear to have moved. I'd have expected the aim to have moved if the level system doesn't know where the back of the car is.

if the aim hasn't moved it implies that it's not a sensor failure but the HID ECU or adjustment motors.....

if the Sensors fail, the failsafe position is to point the lights down as far as possible.,.. giving a night vision range of about 10 feet!   But without blinding opposing traffic.

inoperative HID lamp Adjustment, is, as I understand it, an MOT fail, even if they're nominally pointing the right way at the test centre (or so i was told)

The servos are on the back of the headlamp and connect to the reflector via a ball & socket type arrangement
I have an O/S Xenon Headlamp complete with Servo & the Power pack for 1999 if you are interested

maybe it was.
no need to get cute, i was merely passing on info given to me by the Vx stealer when I enquired as to what the fault was and why my headlights suddenly point at the ground instead of where i'm going.

they were actually fairly forthcoming about what it is, how it works, and what it does and why....    which, admittedly is rather unusual for  a dealer.....

Where would you stand having tech2 adjust the field to give better view? are there many settings for this?

I ask because the wifes facelift has massively better lights than the mv6  (yes both HID before you ask ;) )

As I'm at the dealer plugged into tech2 anyway next week, thought I may try and blag an improvement, if I know what to ask for that is.

In old terms it's like my headlight adjustment is at '2' compared to '0' on her's

No Tech2 adjustment. There is a calibration function that should be carried out.

Presumably yours are set to UK setting, not the flat 'universal' setting (which is lower) - double check the levers as per handbook...

Should have thought of that, esp as the car came from 'down south' so could well have been used a bit on the continent.

I belive the expression is 'doh!'

You are a genius!

Got the book out, and there are some biro marks from someone making notes!
Opened the lights and they are set as per the settings in the book, ie continent settings!

Made the change and they look better as far as I can tell in the light, will try properly later.

I Love this place!

Large hands not a problem here.

Whoever did this liked the brute force approach, the 2 plastic covers above the lights 'wrenched' off and just resting on the top!

Was a van parked in front of me, 1/5 - 2 meters away
Pattern of the lights went from  -  - to more like /  \ and seemed to illuminate about 2 inches higher up the van.

will add a couple of those securing clips to my shopping list!

Not too bad. A bit of patience & a Stanley knife to cut through the mastic/glue that holds on the lense.
