Lots of us have them, they are good for the money
Good points - work on most vauxhalls, facelift and prefacelift
Pay for themselves in one code read / reset

Bad points
you NEED a decent spec laptop with a real serial (COM1) port
Software very buggy and 80% Hungarian

They talk intermittantly to various onboard systems, ie gearbox etc

If all you want is to get a fault code out the car, which you can then look up on internet, then they work ok.
Can then also clear the code / airbag light.

Ive recived my Opel Tech 2 Code Reader today , installed the software, connected it to the car and to my laptop via the rs232 db9 serial cable, and it will not talk to the car at all, also tried it in another vauxhall as well, and no success.

I have tried using both the TIS2000 software which was supplied and also the opel tech 2 software and no luck.

Anyone get any ideas please  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I have a cheapo Tech 2, which looks similar to what you've got there. It has only worked on a laptop with a real serial port on the computer itself. Tried it with a port replicator on a Toshiba machine and it didn't work. Same with USB to serial adaptors. You need a reasonably fast machine too. Doesn't work on sub-1GHz machines IME. Software is in Hungarian with a little English thrown in for good measure but it has proved useful on a couple of occasions if awkward.

It certainly won't work with TIS software as that expects to talk to a real Tech2 which is a whole lot more comprehensive than these simple interfaces.

I'd also add that if the TIS software that's referred to is the Vauxhall software it's likely to be a pirated copy :-/

Ah, likely not a proper com port. Most port replicators do not implement proper UARTs, more likely a USB to serial adapter...
