Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Vectra NCDC in Omega.
« on: 14 June 2016, 18:56:37 »
Assuming its a CID - haven't checked yet, will this be a straight swap into an Omega ?

Omega Gallery / My latest Omega.
« on: 03 June 2016, 08:14:47 »
I said I wasn't going to have another one, but then I saw this Rubens red 3.2 for sale and next thing I know I'm driving it home.  ;D

So far Ive changed the cambelt, serviced the engine and swapped the front grill. Still unsure about the grill though. Further work is planned over the summer, if I find the time & energy.
As can be seen in the pics, the rear is sitting high, so a new pair of Sachs springs are on their way, and will hopefully rectify this.

Omega General Help / Refurbing wishbones.
« on: 02 June 2016, 20:40:45 »
Thanks (many thanks) to Mr Telemacher, I have a pair of GM wishbones to refurb. I have cleaned them up and painted them, so now want to start assembling the replacement parts.
Powerflex polybushes are the obvious choice to replace the front bushes, but what is the current perceived wisdom on the other parts.
GM rear bushes ? Which balljoints ?   :-\

I'm after an old pair of genuine wishbones to refurbish. Condition of bushes etc. immaterial, but most be structurally sound.

Omega General Help / Self levelling stuck on high ?
« on: 26 May 2016, 18:30:58 »
Rear end of my 3.2 elite looks like its sitting too high. I measured from the floor to the wheelarch and it measures 685mm either side.
Iirc this is about 25mm high ?
Pulled the air pipes of the shocks and released air, made no difference. Checked that pump runs by popping arm off sensor and raising it, which caused the pump to kick in.
Lowering the sensor arm as low as it will go, doesn't cause shocks to lower. Should it ? If not, what does ?
Seem to remember something about a pressure release valve on the pump ? Could that be the cause ?
Tia.  :)

Im I correct in thinking that the 2.5 v6 will use the same discs as a 3.2 ?

General Car Chat / Might buy a lottery ticket this week.
« on: 14 May 2016, 13:11:49 »
A small stroke of luck this morning, but I would like to know what the odds are of it happening.
I have got all the bits together to do the cambelt on my newly acquired 3.2, apart from the 30mm swan neck spanner.
A place about 10 miles away advertises them on their website for £20 (a tad steep) so I drove over there this morning to get one, only to be told they don't hold them in stock but could get one for the middle of next week.  ::)
Then spent an hour going around the various places in the areas where I might get one, but no luck at all.
On the way home I was about to drive past a car boot sale site (haven't been to one in many years) and had the thought that it might be worth a look. Nothing to lose etc.
Got out of the car and the 2nd stall I looked at had a bucket of spanners on it. I pulled out the first big ring spanner I saw and lo and behold it was a 30mm deep offset spanner.  ;D
"How much for the spanner mate ?"  "A couple of quid will do thanks." I spied a nice bench vice that I fancied for my shed.
"How much for the vice mate ?"......"you can have that and the spanner for a tenner".
Off I go home, a very happy bunny. Its the little things that make a day a good one or a bad one.  :)

Cars for Sale & wanted / Omega 2.5 V6 (LPG) for sale.
« on: 11 May 2016, 23:04:49 »
Ive owned this car for around 5 years and carried out a lot of upgrades to get it how I wanted it, so will be sorry to see it go, but its getting slightly dog eared in one or two areas and I now have a 3.2 elite, so its time to move it on.
Its on an X plate - year 2000.  6 months MOT. 137800 miles.                                                                                                                                                                       Started life as a CD spec car, but I have fitted complete Elite leather interior, doorcards, blind, and have started to install a Bose system, but that needs finishing off. The standard stereo is till fitted and working.
The drivers seat has had the mod carried out to enable the memory function to work. All seat heaters work. The climate control has had the latest update installed.
There is a late elite type windscreen with auto dim mirror and rain sensor (not yet wired in).
An earlier type autodip mirror will come with the car, in case an earlier type screen ever needs to be installed.
The glovebox catch is broken, but a complete good glovebox also comes with the car, along with a bootful of various spares. Everything from a spare diff to a collection of relays.
I installed an elite rear shelf with blind, but the blind is a bit sticky on the way up, I think due to the shelf needing to be secured better to the car itself.
The shelf has Bose speakers and amp in it, and a Bose loom runs up as far as the drivers kick panel. The part need sorting is the loom from there up to the headunit. I have the loom but haven't got as far as installing it.
Also included are the  Bose doorspeakers and CCR600 headunit. The facia isn't very secure on the headunit, but it works ok.

The transmission has also had the latest update version installed.

The engine runs sweet, but the cambelt is around a year overdue, and about due in mileage also.
It has had plenty of servicing carried out during my ownership and I have stacks of receipts for the parts used etc.
It has had a new cat back exhaust system within the last year.

The LPG  system was a pro install, but not the tidiest installation Ive seen. Its more untidy now, as the brackets which held the solenoids in place have fallen off.
It used to run perfectly on gas but a while back became a little lumpy. I intended to get a professional setup but garages I used for LPG stopped selling it, so I just gave up using it. No point doing a 20 mile round trip to save on fuel costs.
The car is on the LPG register

Externally, I have fitted Early facelift 17 inch alloys, tyres are all ok. HID headlights with headlight wash system. The headlights could do with a polish. Bilstien B4 shocks on the rear. Polybushes on the front wishbones.
The rear bushes on the wishbones could probably do with replacing. There is slight play in the steering idler. The front camber needs setting as I hit a pothole with the n/s/f which caused the tyre to wear unevenly. I have replaced the tyre, but the camber hasn't been done yet.
New front discs and new pads all round have been fitted very recently.

Bodywork. An elite boot spoiler is fitted. the n/s/r arch is going scabby and there is a little rust at the bottom of the rear door.
There are plenty of small scratches etc. as you would expect on a 16 year old car, but apart from the rear arch it generally looks reasonably presentable.
Pics to follow shortly.
Im asking £425 ovno for the car.
Anyone interested please get in touch via PM.

Just bought a 3.2 Elite which is overdue cambelt change, so need to acquire  the tools to do the job.
If anyone has a kit they no longer need at a reasonable price, please get in touch.

Im also interested in a NCDC / CID for the car if I can find a good one at a sensible price.  :y

General Car Chat / Meriva P.A.S. problems.
« on: 21 April 2016, 22:56:02 »
A colleague at work has a nice little irmscher Meriva, which has a problem with the electric PAS .
It suddenly stops working which is apparently quite unnerving.
They have done a bit of online research and aren't sure whether to get the parts refurbed or buy parts from a breaker, but they have been told whichever option they choose, the various parts will need to be calibrated once fitted (or refitted) to the car.
I presume this would need a tech2 session ?
Anyone have any experience of this ?
Tia.

General Car Chat / Buying an investment classic.
« on: 30 March 2016, 12:29:16 »
I have been toying with the idea of using part of my pension fund to buy a classic car. I have heard that they can be a very good long term investment.
Two problems with this. I don't have a garage to keep it in, and I don't think I could ever decide which one to buy.
So, if you had, say a maximum of £10k to spend on a classic, what would you buy ?

General Car Chat / Noisy old Merc.
« on: 12 March 2016, 10:44:22 »
At the MOT station last week with my old 2.5D, I started the engine after the test was finished and the throttle stuck open. It revved its nuts off for a few seconds before I switched it off. Discovered the linkage had got caught on something so sorted it there and then.
Problem is, ever since then, at idle it sounds like an old black cab that hasn't been serviced for a long time. At higher revs at doesn't sound so bad, but still a bit knocky.
Noise is definitely from the top end,so Im thinking valvegear related ?
It still performs the same as it did previously, so presumably not bent valves or similar. Knackered lifter maybe ? :-\

Sorry, posted in wrong section. Thought I was in gen car chat. Hopefully a kind admin will move.  :-[

The one just across the channel. Looks like a hideous place to live. Now the French are knocking part of it down, not sure if that will help matters.
I have one simple question about it, that I haven't heard an answer to in the media. All the refuges and asylum seekers who live there - why don't they claim asylum in France ?  :-\

Apparently she is in charge of tackling obesity !
Presumably a case of \\"do as I say, not what I do".
