WTD - Estate rear suspension arm LH/nearside
« on: 07 August 2012, 12:07:06 »

I'm just testing the water before buying a bearing and changing it myself. Changing an arm has got to be easier than doing the bearing!

So does anyone have (longshot) a good rear LH arm with good bearing and good backplate/disc shield for an estate?

I would change the bearing. There's nothing to say that the bearing in the arm you fit won't start whining in a few months time  ::)

fyi Ive been quoted £60-80 to change a rear bearing by a local garage
plus the bearing itself, which I beleive is http://www.allgermanparts.co.uk/ourshop/prod_2034011-Rear-wheel-bearing-FAG-brand-100-OEM-713-6446-50.html

waiting confirmation that is the estate one, not saloon though.

Yes this has crossed my mind too. I'd rather leave the original arm on the car anyway as surely its always best to stick with matching pairs (LH - RH) when dealing with suspension etc and I dont want to change both!

Was mainly after a quick fix to get it back on the road as I have many other life issues at the mo but changing the bearing would be best. (have started a thread)

Looking on Vaux car parts site as a reference ( http://www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk/acatalog/Omega_Rear_axle_suspension.html ) they list the estate bearing as the same part number as the allgerman one so I reckon the FAG one should be correct???

Ive emailed allgerman with both parts to check, I find it strange they stock one and not the other.

Just spoke to allgerman and the guy said he dealt with James (I assume Jimbob) earlier and and has been pulled away a few times. He's just gone off to get to the bottom of it and call me back.

By some miracle I have just found the remains of the bearing I changed on my old omega a couple of years ago. I only have the outer race and some balls to go by but it would seem to agree with the allgerman dimensions. On the link I posted above to the vaux-car-parts site they give the dimensions of the saloon bearing as - 39 x 74 x 39. They list the estate bearing as part no. 90486468N and this is the same number as the allgerman site quotes. Allgerman state the size of  90486468 as 'Outer Diameter 74 mm, Inner Diameter 37 mm, Width 45 mm' and this matches the remains of mine from my CDX estate.

edit: whilst writing this allgerman has called back and confirmed their part (OEM 713 6446 50/90486468) as correct for an estate and I am inclinded to agree with them.

I have ordered the part and they said they would be back in thouch with Jimbob asap

So to conclude

Saloon - 90510542(N) - 74 x 39 x 39

Estate - 90486468(N) - 74 x 37 x 45

Dimensions above are OD x ID x W

And I dont need an arm anymore as I'm now committing to a bearing change..... hummppff!

I can confirm this is the correct part which is now fitted to my car - OEM 713 6446 50/90486468 - (Estate - 90486468) - http://www.allgermanparts.co.uk/ourshop/prod_2034011-Rear-wheel-bearing-FAG-brand-100-OEM-713-6446-50.html
