I bought the car for this purpose. My GTC eats 2400kms per month and I wanted to divide this by two with another car, which could be at the same time a very comfortable and original car.

First I wanted a C5 2.0HDi Hydractive but I found this Omega. 2 of my friends converted their V6 to ethanol and I know it works perfectly. So, next move is to put 6 z20let injectors, and fully refurbish the cooling system. With cooling and timing belt kit all new, I can drive with peace of mind.

Even if today, the car seems to cool down properly on regular road, it has some difficulties to regulate on mountain roads or traffic jam. Especially when I'm stopped, the gauge reaches 100°C, and even with the fans ON, hardly cool down, until I bleep the throttle a little bit, at this moment the gauge moves down to 95°C. Like if the rpm moves the coolant faster in the radiator and the bloc. Looks to me as an abnormal behavior from the cooling system. The car should cool down without the help of rpm's increase.

Let me know if you guys have the same experience of it :y

Painted the Astra GTE seats that are going in the Austin Omega, they were grey and its all black inside. Fabric spray made it feel a bit "crispy" I will see how it is after drying overnight. I do have black leather to cover them but cant get them done in time for its maiden hot rod show trip.

Retrieved TPC from Gatwick Long stay. The ground all down the right side was covered in glass.

No damage or evidence and tampering on my car, so can only assume that it was less interesting than whatever was parked next to it :-\

Someone had a shitty end to their holiday ;(
There is no way that I would leave my car, no matter how plain and boring, in any long stay car park.
I tend to use the short stays when going abroad, though that is more about my idleness and utter hatred of those transfer buses than any concern about my car. And as a rule, they ain't the cheapest.

That said, the short stay at Luton is well known not to be the safest place, and ever since that burnt down, we take things like house keys with us ;D

One place I won't leave mine is the car parks in Birmingham city centre, as the cartel of gangs use them for acquiring parts to sell, and the police see them as no-go areas.  Even shitboxes are targetted, depending on whatever they have sold on egay etc.

Thanks for the help, cleaning the sump was the right call. The bottom of the pan had around 2 milimeter thick layer of jellyfied oil, but i think the issue was caused by the pickup being blocked partially by the jellyfied oil and the o ring for the pick was also extremly flat. Anyway the issue seems to be resolved.

So, took the breather off, it was loose and tape around thread (if any) was brittle and broken. Put teflon tape to thread and tightened well. No leak anymore, hopefully job jobbed.

When I changed the timing belt I could see some limestone deposits around the thermostat box and the cooler plate. I have no oil in water yet, but I really want to avoid any cooling issue as I'm using the car to travel through France once every two months, from north west to south east (total of 2400kms).
Mine is a '96, pretty sure it's not stainless steel.
That's quite a trek for a near 30 year old car. Fair play to you. :y

Stopped with a broken Elite estate near the entertainingly named Cockfield in Co Durham earlier, chap said he had the AA en route and was happy to wait, just wondered if it was an OOFer?

Was gone by the time we came back two hours later so either the AA had been or the owner had pushed it into a field and walked home...
