So my Home Media Server runs Plex with various NowTV Boxes plugged into various devices.  :y

Well, not anymore, I mean there still plugged in, but have all been bricked by Sky's lastest OTA Update within the last few days, No more Media System, now I stuck with NowTV and Catch Up Channels only.  :'(

Was working effortlessly over the last few years, My Music and Video Media, on My Hard Drive, through My Network, on My Devices, on My NowTV Boxes, all paid for, has been killed off by Sky's Big Brother.  >:( >:(

I was wondering if you would post on this, it's only really taking affect now.  :-X

But yes, 'Developer Mode' has been disabled on all boxes now. It's to stop things like this:

Well, I can kind of understand your link (IPTV), together with the mupets on eBat that were selling Plex with subscription Movies on Private Cloud Servers (Presumably Pirated Material) or but its kind of killed it for people that have set up their own private Home Media Stuff. Was there no other way around it?

Wish I had known it was coming probably could have disable the OTA updates or the API address or something, too late now. there bricked.

I wonder if there are legal implications where a genuine, legit, above board user has been hit like this :-\

No way of doing this on the box, unless you wanted to get dirty with your router setup and restrict it's internet access.

NOW TV never offered developer mode as a feature, it was never advertised or shown as something you can do. It was always an item for the tech savvy, to side load Apps.

Normal Roku boxes still have Plex access  :y

I would have thought Sky would have looked into this before Killing the boxes off.

Im kind of guessing it goes along the lines of, the Hardware is bought and paid for and therefore is Owned by the Customer, Im guessing the Software within the Hardware is Owned by Sky (or Roku) and some where within the small print at Purchase, Someone, somewhere holds the right to change, modify said Software and any Updates, outright, or to improve or change the Software within the Licence Service Agreement. Or words to that effect.  :-\

It's Sky's own firmware, as it's a 'locked down' version, as such they are aimed at NOW TV and Freeview catchup only.  If you look at normal Roku boxes they are 4 even 5x the price of NOW TV Box, but have Plex and all others apps.

Hmmmm, I have a Now Tv box and use both Plex plus my Movies subscription, if Plex is off then the subscription will get binned I suspect and I will have to find an alternative Plex portal device.

Theres a rumored fix, which I am just off to try, I dont know if the local box i support will have updated yet.

i suspect Amazon Fire's are probably the next cheapest plex player.

My inlaw's one hasnt updated yet.

Possible, but there are no conflicting reports is that disabling network pings may stop an update :
Home, Home, Home, Home, Home, FF, P, R, P FF takes you to this menu.

Ive done this....and also unplugged it for the moment until things are clearer.

Doesn't work, all mine were disabled anyway (Network Pings) as that was a suggested fix for something else sometime back.

Somebody has reported a temp (drastic) fix on the Web today, but it puts the Box into Plex only, ie, no NowTv or Catch Up available.

Problem is once the Box has been Updated to the latest firmware (7.5.3.4068 or later) its already been flashed so will never go in developer mode and purges any developer app already in there.

Im going to rename my boxes to Nowt Box.  ::)

I do like how on NOW TV's own community pages, people are discussing how to block it.  ::)   ;D

If NTV box worked so well, just buy a regular Roku box.  :y
