Reasonably pleased - still haven't found web space or extra emails, the BT Yahoo stuff is all resource hungry.

Killed it all off with Hijackthis ;D
There are a few good web/email hosts - the best value seems to be stateside...

Or host your own now you have always on internet ;) - though your dynamic address may cause a problem.  If you want to try this, check out Zoneedit, and their Dynamic DNS service - you can host your existing DNS there, and point your A and MX records to your own server on your DSL line. And its free. ;)

MaxDSL, not quite good enough line for 2Mb then, so Max is probably the best product.

It will disconnect a few times over next few days as it trys to work out your line characteristics...

What upload did you get, 256k (fixed speed product) or 444k (MaxDSL)?

Pleased?

Merc baiting is a hobby of mine......the drivers of them seem incapable of using indicators (probably broken knowing current Merc quality) or selecting the correct lane, sitting next to them on roundabouts and forcing them to miss there exit as a result is great fun.....

...it breaks the monotony of the drive home from work

Like your way of thinking, but over here it's usually the BMW drivers who get the brunt of the abuse
Yep, its the repmobiles that never take the option extra of having indicators fitted. Around here, its the 3 series BMWs that have taken over from the Cavaliers/Vectra and Sierras/Mondeos.

I've found an excellent little place just south of Nottingham to be excellent for changing wheel bearings ;)

Which reminds me, Marks_DTM/Matchless, I still owe you for the hub...

My understanding is, you cannot drive a car without tax?

However the problem:

Picking up a car on Saturday, it has a new MOT but no tax.

Its already Thursday, I won't be able to get a insurance certificate by Saturday.

I know you need a MOT + insurance to get tax, problem is i won't have any in time to drive the car. Even if i get one of those 1 day insurance things, cause they won't let you buy tax iic.

Any ideas?

Can i drive the car saying insurance is on the way so i can buy tax?  :-/

Has anyone has experiance with on-line tax?

Thanks in advance!  :y

Did I miss it????

What did you get ????
I think he's being secretive until he gets it.  He did tell me, but my lips are sealed  :-X

Yes, ask current owner to tax.  Only time you can drive it without tax is with trade plates (or possibly to/from prearranged MOT).

Cannot do online, as not in your name yet.

If owner has already surrended insurance, you may have a problem...

. . . what the smeg is wrong with this thing?  Fresh XP pro install, worked great.  Eventually added IE7, suddenly steady but random blank or corrupt page downloads, corrupt pics, and corrupt downloaded files.  Added FF2, slightly better but still suffers the same problems.  It had no problems before IE7?  Now I have to use the Mac for any downloads and sometimes for uploads!?  Everything else is very stable for Winblows, no programs crash, nor the OS.  Nothing else seems affected.  Some kind of XP firewall issue?  Stinkpad laptop, 1.6 Celeron.
SP2 and othe rupdates installed?

I go back to my question - is it an original XP CD, a copy of one, or a recovery CD.  It sounds like CD drive cannot read for some reason...

Lost

 :o :o :o

I put the disc in and nothing, then i opened my computer and pressed the disc drive and it says insert disc
Either the CD drive is knackered (try another CD), or the CD is knackered, in which case (presumably its new) return to vendor for replacement.  If not new, Microsoft will send out a new CD for a small handling/p&p fee (around £10 - £15 IIRC) once you have proved ownership (generally they just need the key)

Can you upgrade from ME to XP? i didnt think you could?
Irrelevent. Never upgrade an OS. Always rebuild.

But, sounds like poster cannot read CD from within Windows, so cd drive or cd fault...
