Omega General Help / Re: OK, WTF am I doing wrong? (battery)
« on: 08 April 2013, 17:24:17 »
the advice given was to rev it to 4-5k, thats the horsesh*te

yes a totally flat battery may need 2k if youre in a rush, but revvig to 4/5k? WASTE OF PETROL

also leaving it at tickover would recitfy the problem yes?

im sorry, but thats horsesh*te, revving the other car will make no difference

what volts do cars with alternators run at? do your lights get brighter when you rev the engine at night??

the alternator puts out 13.4v ot there abouts no matter what the revs are

what you needed was more time not more revs

thats not opinion thats a fact.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Fuse 12 Blowing [UPDATE]

Is this the fuse that supplies the rear cigarette lighter?

People have reported fuses blowing after children have kicked the rear lighter or dropped coins into either front or rear sockets.

I had this problem, fuse kept blowing, eventually i found a 2p piece had fallen into the front fag lighter and the lighter jobbie still sat in on top of it ok. took bloody ages to figure out what was going on.

at the same time a coil pack had gone down and car kept stalling, and fuse kept blowing, convinced myself they were connected bt was pure coincidence. nightmare.

thats what i thought chiping a n/a petrol engine is normally a waste of time unless you doing alot of other work too
I have chipped my 3l ::)

But thats because there is not a huge amount more I can do for sensible money for extra power.  With a 2.5, it seems the cams are a more cost effective power upgrade :y

how much did you gain??

chipped an old wrx scooby berfore, with better fuel pump to match and fuel rails.

cost £300ish, gains 55bhp, from 238bhp to 293bhp proven on rollers! (it was already decatted and panel filter)

in that case im guessing it would be a mission to make it switchable.

Petrol engines, i would agree, but in the case of the 2.5TD in  the Omega, it was de-tuned from BMW spec in the Omega, chipping it, brings it back to full BMW spec, you do get more power and better mpg because the engine is not having to work as hard.

thats what i meant, but if you flog your car everywhere to the limit then your mpg would still suffer???? adapting to the new characteristics and driving accordingly then youll getter better mpg :y

more bhp and more mpg cant be achived with a chip alone, if you chip your car so youve got more power and torque then adjusting your driving to suit the more torque available, like shifting at a lower rpm etc will give you more mpg, caining it everywhere will result in a worse mpg than before.

how is a chip fitted to an omega? if you have a spare chip space on the ecu and you have to cut a resistor to activate the chip then its easy, simply cut one end of the resistor, run a wire from that to a switch then back to were the reistor used to be, then you have a switchable chip all depends on how a chip is fitted, if u take the old one out and replace with new then i doubt you could do it.

Omega General Help / Re: One wheel drive Omega??

It's called a "diferencial" Basically when you turn a corner, the inside wheel will turn faster than the outer one. What happened in your case is one tyre will have slightly more grip than the other & thus making one tyre spin.
You would really struggle to drive anywhere without one.
wrong way im affriad boss, the outer wheel spins faster, its got further to go round the courner than the inner wheel......
