key remote control
« on: 15 February 2008, 16:00:39 »

just bought my 2.5 facelifted.elite, It came with 2 keys both with button push Remote Conrols.
On 1 The key works really well, as notd the little red led light flashes, On the other hand, the other key does not flash as there is no red led.
I was told the previous owner had fitted a new batt on the second key, but it does not work.
I know there may be an issue re coding the remote, I have my keycodes, my question is : does/did Vauxhall sell remote keys without the small led red lights, or have I been ripped off.

Yes, I have one key with an LED, one without.

One of the legs of the battery holder often breaks contact from the pcb, 2 secs with a soldering iron fixes this....

I'm assuming the keys both have the same 3 button remote including remote boot opening? In this case they should both have the LED. My spare key didn't have a battery in for a year and still worked fine when I fitted one so didn't need recoding, guess the info must be hard-stored in PROM/EPROM.

Each remote key (and each transponder used for immobiliser) has a uniue identity.  I purposely didn't say code, as they all work on a rolling code principle to stop code sniffers..

Each fob has to be programmed in to the alarm system (or central locking on base spec cars).  Once programmed, that key will always work with that car (unless specifically deprogrammed).  Under certain circumstances (changing battery etc), the rolling code just falls out of sync, and needs resyncing via the procedure in manual.  This will only work for keys that have be previously programmed.

The immobiliser transponder is similar, but no rolling code, so no resync ever necessary, and its programmed to immobiliser ecu.

The Omega, like most Vauxhalls, can have up to 5 remotes and 5 transponders programmed.
