Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Good ol' Halfords
« on: 08 February 2010, 13:11:10 »
I have bought a fair bit from Toolstation (consumables, decorating, some tools), but wouldn't use them for tools that I didn't regard as throwaway.  Silverline appear to be pretty crap in general.

I agree with TB - generally found Draper Expert stuff to be good quality.   I also like the Halfords Professional tools w. life time guarantee (some good deals on at present I note)

Hi Bob, Just saw this as I don't often look here( :-[)
Is this my old car?

I certainly never had any cause to touch the power sounder in my time with it and the only indicator problem I remember was when I managed to break the hazard switch when replacing climate bulbs - replaced switch ages ago, so I doubt that has anything to do with it.

Cheers
Ian

Thanks for the suggestions Dave ;)

I don't have a phone so that's not an issue.  I didn't realise that the saloon radio antenna is in the window.

I guess I could try the stubby off my saloon and see what happens..

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Aerial
« on: 22 December 2008, 17:14:56 »
The aerial on my 3.2 is the type that points up vertically from the roof in order to avoid fouling the tail gate spoiler.

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace this with a stubby type? (reason being the currrent one fouls on my garage door.)

Cheers,
Ian

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Sat Nav drops out
« on: 14 October 2008, 20:46:31 »
Sorry for the delay - been on a trip for a couple of days (no, not that sort..)

It did give me a chance to check out the nav a bit more.

The disk is genuine although a bit grubby (how on earth can that happen.. ).  Its a 2006 version.  I also have a 2001(?) one - presumably the one that came with the car.

I gave the old one a try and it worked fine for the whole journey.
So I assume from that that the new cd is dodgy.  I guess I should try the new one back for a bit before condemming it.

Is it safe to wash in mild dish wash or similar?  Might be worth a go :-/.

Yes I have seen that - certainly stayed up for a while.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Sat Nav drops out
« on: 12 October 2008, 22:51:46 »
I set up my Sat Nav (NCDC 2013) with an address, it works out the route and starts directing. All ok.

Then 30 seconds later the radio unit appears to momentarily lose all power (the lights go out for a fraction of a second) and the navigation becomes inactive.

I have not noticed the radio lose power (or reset?) like that other than when I have just programmed the satnav.

Any ideas what's going on?

Ah - in that case it sounds like she hit the release button (which is on the opposite side of the radio ::)).   All is working ok now.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Panel message
« on: 09 June 2008, 12:28:41 »
I got a 'Panel' message on the MID that I haven't seen before when the radio is switched on.

It turns out that Mrs ian was driving the car, go annoyed with the radio so tried to switch it off without looking at it - so probably hit a few buttons at random.

I reenterred the security code which seems to have fixed it,  but wondered if anyone knows what actually happened, or indeed if I have a radio on the way out.

Cheers
Ian

I seem to remember that the online auto system I bought had enormous bolt holes in the floating plate that holds it to the cat section.  Made it very difficult to allign and connect properly.

Other than that similar to the eternal systems.

Are the plugs back to the originals now?  Its got to be worth eliminating that change - esp on no.1 as easily accessible and most suspect :-/

No leads dislodged at the DISpack end..?

The connector can also fail, esp if some careless mechanic as missed the hole with coolant.

Sounds quite likely - esp pouring from 5L can and no funnel.

Can the connector be cleaned up or is it a gonner?  (I've got a similar sounding problem on my Elite - float is fine - message appears from time to time)

(caustic = caustic soda = sodium hydroxide.   Not nice stuff when concentrated and gets hot if you are disolving crystals - definitely use gloves and be very careful.    Its used in soap so is good at eating grime, but I doubt it will attack limescale - I think you need acid (descaler) for that (sorry - my chemistry is a bit rusty!))
