I set up my Sat Nav (NCDC 2013) with an address, it works out the route and starts directing. All ok.

Then 30 seconds later the radio unit appears to momentarily lose all power (the lights go out for a fraction of a second) and the navigation becomes inactive.

I have not noticed the radio lose power (or reset?) like that other than when I have just programmed the satnav.

Any ideas what's going on?

If you immediately go back to Nav, do you get a Please Wait msg for about 20s?

The device is restarting then.

Is it a good CD (ie, not scratched, or CDR)?  Does it happen after a while, or straight away - thinking of fan failure on side of unit (fan only comes on when unit hot)

during a rather poor attempt to change dash bulbs, i managed to bugger up the security connection between screen and head unit. Neither would work, eventually rectified by disconnecting the battery(which i should have done in the first place) and reconnecting battery when cid and head unit where  correctly installed. Bingo all working fine, point is at no time did i see a request for a code of any sort for head unit or cd changer. So presume from that, that the code is only required to pair the head unit and screen, (thief unlikely to steel both) and that because it has not asked for a code does not mean that it has not lost power. Would that be correct?
Would the unit get hot enough in 30 seconds from start up to need the fan if not working?

No coded needed - only needed if you want to seperate the system.

Fan comes on rarely.

Sorry for the delay - been on a trip for a couple of days (no, not that sort..)

It did give me a chance to check out the nav a bit more.

The disk is genuine although a bit grubby (how on earth can that happen.. ).  Its a 2006 version.  I also have a 2001(?) one - presumably the one that came with the car.

I gave the old one a try and it worked fine for the whole journey.
So I assume from that that the new cd is dodgy.  I guess I should try the new one back for a bit before condemming it.

Is it safe to wash in mild dish wash or similar?  Might be worth a go :-/.

could use a bit of brasso matey, takes off a thin layer of the lacquer stuff to get rid of scratches etc - works well.. used it on a ps2 game i think it was that was buggered! worked fine after
