Hi all, just wondered if anyone could offer some direction as to where I might look/try first re. problem with my audio system. 

The problem seems to be coming from the drivers side door speaker (Elite model). There is a woolyness/reverberation/distortion which is more noticable the louder you go. If I adjust the balance heavily to the left the problem goes away.

Mine was exactly the same (Bose, unmolested original HU/amp/etc) for a while.. then the drivers side speaker stopped working completely.

So I figure it's indicative of a speaker on it's last legs..

if you have the original HU than most probably as 'aaronjb' has mentioned the speaker is on its way out or MAYBE that speaker cable has a bad connection somewhere along the line which is causing it to distort. Worth a visual check in the back. But il put my money on the worned out speaker!

Swap the speakers over to prove whether it is down to a breakdown in the wiring or not, but my money would be on the speaker getting tired.

Thanks one and all, I will have a look at the weekend. Everything is standard equipment nothing has ever been changed.

Are the door cards easy to remove to gain access to the speaker?

Chances are the speaker connector is earthing try some electrical tape on it to help with this if it is...

Removing the speaker cover will allow you to see if the speaker itself is damaged, if not then yes the door card is removable...various screws...three at the very bottom embedded a bit, 2 at the side of the door card, flip the lock pull out then there is a screw behind there, one or two behind the door handle etc...
