i happend to lock my only key in car.(dont ask)cost me £80 for new rear quarter window,

Voted... IMO you should always have a spare, even if it is just for the locks and doesn't have an immobiliser transponder ;)

That's exactly my attitude to spare keys. I've been to far too many lost/stolen/locked in the car that wouldn't be an issue if they'd spent a fiver on a spare.
And having one is no use whatever if it's on the same keyring! Not that anyone here would be so bloody stupid.

Basically why I feel that way... And cars are getting harder to get into "Damage Free" now as well ::)

I keep asking myself the same question re my daily driver Astra .......... but don't want to spend out for a key & fob & coding & carpass ::) ::) ::)
-
Why do you think you get two or sometimes three keys with a new vehicle.
Should always have spares :y :y

Agreed..... it's a total nightmare if you only have one, and something happens to it... :-X :y

We have 2 spares, one lives in SWTSMBO hand bag - along with the contents of 75 suitcases, 4 chemists, 2 post offices and a makeup shop - the other stays at home ... :)

Just spilt coffee on the laptop :-[

if you going to break a widow always break the big one not the quarter as they are harder to replace.

A spare doesn't need the fob. Now you're just looking at a key and the immobiliser. Or, you could just have the key, doable by any high street locksmith, which will get you in the car and unlock the steering, which will get you out of trouble. And that has got to be worth a few quid.

Does doing her in the old boy's bed give you a boner? Sick fekker! >:( ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

so you needed a poll to ask if you should get a spare unbelieveble :o
-
I have this same problem with the Jeep, I only have one key and one fob, they are separate, but a key alone will not work, it may open the door but will not switch off the alarm nor will it start the car.......I really need an new key and fob, the cost is around £200 though and can only be done via a dealer and coding the fob take about 2 hours apparently, via computer link with Chrysler.... :( :(
I remember the day when you could go to a motor parts place with your key number and buy a new one off the shelf, or one for the car up the road if you knew the number.....oh the good old days.... :D :D :D
-
Has to be the thing to do,,just in case..having said that..when i brought my omega the first thing i did was to have a spare key done....had the car 3 and a half years and never used the spare..but hey just in case lol :y

A brick and a new window would be cheaper!? ::)
-
Last key I made for myself cost me the princely sum of sod all ::)

So, you didn't think to put it somewhere safe where it'll be easy possible to find in an emergency, then? ;)
-
I should really get a spare key cut at least.
Having said that I've managed just fine in 20 months of Omega ownership and never lost a key in 5/6 years of driving.
-
Never (permenently) lost a car key, but...
I had a main key, and a spare for the Kawasaki, can't find either. So got 2 more cut last summer, and have lost one of those as well already ::)

Iirc, that's only £10 cheaper than a key from a dealer. Although that quote was a long time ago.
Should you get a spare key? Yes. From a dealer? No, not completely.
There are cheaper options.
Get a basic key with transponder cut at a locksmith. Get It tech2'd on here.
Get an uncut blade and unprogrammed fob from the dealer. Cut blade at a locksmith, Tech2 to programme.
Kevin Wood in Alton and TheBoy in Brackley both have Tech2 and will programme new keys and clear out old transponder codes no problem.
Full proper vx key can be had for about £40 plus Programing on here.
You'll get the usual "you know it won't work without Programing ?" at every stage but just agree and press on.
-
thats why i started poll,my old omega had fours years.new key from vx was about £100 inc car pass cert + key and cut and tech 2,but a new rear window was £80 but then i only locked key in car think i will order new one thanks.
-
Don't forget, that's £80 for the window, on top of the cost of another key.
Which is why I always suggest a locksmith over vandalism!
