Local petrol station to me is out of diesel and out of normal unleaded. Only had super unleaded at £145.9 per litre.

Had to buy it as nearly out. And I filled a jerry can  ;D In fairness need the fuel for the bike and the angle grinder this weekend, not panic buying honest.  :D

Same here, forecourt completely coned off. It's obviously causing long queue's at the next nearest fuel station. On the plus side, I didn't have to queue to get my newspaper.  :y

LPG availability won't be too badly affected, BUT if the garage selling it runs out of conventional unleaded/diesel fuels, they may well close up shop :-\

Computers showing 11 miles range so thought I'd fill up just now on way home. Bloody two garages have long queues full of retarded freakazoids waiting for fuel. Not waiting in a queue. I'll go to a 24hr garage when the retards are in bed. Talk about sheep.

Drove around x4 local fuel stations today to see if anyone was panic buying, seems almost everyone was ???

24Hrs ago I top-up my tank, no more than normal, half a tank and not going mad and filling up to the brim, and I had a number of pumps to choose from as all garages were doing normal trade.

However, today it was like fuel had become worth more than gold, several roads were almost becoming impassable due to loads of idiots panic buying over what is "a possible threat" of no delivery.  And the so called idiots of today have gone and ended up drying up the fuel pits of most local stations, causing a 'self-induced' short supply and inconvenience to everyone else now.  Which of course is going to cause even more problems?

Goodness knows if the emergency services have been able to fill up their vehicles, if the likes of the ambulance and fire service cannot get to an emergency due to this needless panic situation, let’s hope there isn't going to be a nightmare situation of them having to decide if they can use a vehicle and be able to get to the said emergency :o

My feeling is that there may well be a 'strike', but I reckon it'll be before the next week end's bank holiday, what better time than to do it when most want to go away.

I don't know, I wonder if people think / use common sence anymore ???

I wish I'd gone and filled the MR2 now, it was fairly quiet last night here, too.. ah well  ;D Got half a tank to burn through anyway, and 3/4 in the Omega, assuming it continues to run (it really, really struggled to start earlier :-\)

A mate who is on tankers was trying to get onto a garage forecourt to make a delivery today & was called an a'hole by an obviously not very intelligent car driver who was waiting for fuel. Said mate is pretty handy, only the fact he was in his truck & at work not in his car that stupid motorist has teeth & nose left intact.

Some folk are too thick to consider themselves lucky. ::)

Yup, the tanker driver is earning more than I am which when you consider what I do that is ludicrous!

Btw, all the soldiers are queuing for the HGV Training.  Quote from one I overheard yesterday "Once the strike is over I can sign off and earn a decent wage driving tankers and not have to come out to this shit-hole again"

Certainly makes you wonder about those 'hard done by' tanker drivers...

I think they ought to be made to swap roles with the army tanker boys and see if they think they still need to be worrying about there safety standards after that.

Unfortunately I have to admit I can see things from both sides. The drivers are only threatening to strike because they are being forced to work against the company Safe Method of Work. The stupid thing is that the companies are trying to change to an unsafe method of work against their own (previous) instructions!

Mind you, it's a fairly safe bet that most of these drivers already have deviated from the set down practices and that makes the whole argument a bit pointless ::) Been there, done that when I worked at the Docks ;)

The real problem at the moment is the stupid, selfish, dimwitted public who are rushing out and panic buying fuel ::) And, of course, there's the women who has already managed to burn herself severely while decanting petrol in her kitchen ::)

The tanker drivers don't need to go to strike action with the public behaving as they are ::) And I'd bet my 2p that the worst that will happen is a "Work to Rule" instead of a strike if the talks do break down, which is pretty unlikely as ACAS are actually pretty good at what they do ;)

I think the quality of reporting by the main news channels in Britain is very poor.

Yes they have reporters on the spot (e.g. outside a petrol station showing queues) but they never give the bullet points of what a dispute is about. I wonder why that is?

It might be(but unlikely) that they are expected to drive two lorries at once. We can only find out from alternative sources.

I find the UK press very focussed on ... well... nothing!  They repeat the same tripe over and over without going in to detail.  I often flick to the US news channels to get a better picture of whats happening in the world, ironic I know.

I'm HGV positive & could train up for tanker work & more money...(i don't make 40k a year) but i would'nt want their job. Too much responsibility & so many things can go wrong with potentially disastrous consequences.

I'm one of life "cruisers" not a striver so am happy to stick to my easy container work. Tanker drivers don't JUST drive.

But just think what the Government has achieved.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Winners
1. Government as cars with full tanks of petrol, so strike will have less effect.  :y :y :y

2. Government may or may not make end of year on 5th April budget deficit target. Surge in fuel duty and VAT, every little helps.  ::) ::) ::)

3. Garages / Oil companies make more money by putting price up in temporary blip.  >:( >:( >:(

4. Tanker drivers get overtime money.  >:( >:( >:(

5. Arguments over safety with overtime are diluted, so strike less effective.  :y :y :y

6. Banks as credit card fees and mugs credit card interest given a boost.  >:( >:( >:(

7. Unions get headlines by flexing the industrial bribery.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

8. Fuel spending splurge may be enough to stop second quarter negative GDP growth after negative Q4 2011, this would stop this officially being called a double-dip recession.  :o :o :o

Losers
1. Consumers as petrol prices have increased.

2. Consumers as they have spent money on high tax item instead of normal shopping.

3. Consumers with more credit card interest.

End Score:
Government +3, Garages +1, Tanker Drivers +1, Unions +1, consumers -6

So now you know who are being taken for a ride on their fuel filling and billing habits, simples  >:( >:( >:( >:(

I can better that price for diesel tho.....my nearest Texaco is 149.9ppl and he'd totally run out last night. Shell garage just up the road and a few pence cheaper had about 30 cars queuing waiting for a tanker to refill the tanks and that was at 8.30pm last night  :o That was the shell garage's 2nd delivery that day  :o

What did I tell you on the 31st March, that there was method, in the supposed Government madness in getting people to panic buy fuel and store illegal quantities at home. That it may make the difference between positive and negative growth in the first quarter of 2012 and guess what, it has, with 0.1% growth largely down to the panic buying of fuel. As in the last quarter of 2011 the economy contracted 0.3% and two negative quarters would have mean't the country is officially back into a recession.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

The Government would rather spread the plague than be accused of leading the country into a double dip recession and the political damage that would do. They can now afford a dip in this quarter as long as they pull a stunt so we have growth in the third quarter of 2012. I've personally no doubt the collateral damage incurred by the Government's actions: woman badly burnt, people queuing for hours at petrol stations or not being able to get essential fuel at all and inflated fuel prices was a price well worth paying to keep the country out of a double-dip recession.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

At times I'm a vary cynical person over peoples and especially over Government's motives, unfortunately, I'm too often proved all too right.  :o :o :o

Sir Humphrey Appleby would have been proud of this one.  :D :D :D

I agree with quite a bit of your post but I'm afraid that, no matter how you dress it up, the government cannot be blamed for the women getting burnt. She's the one who, very stupidly, chose to decant petrol in the kitchen near a gas hob ;)
