Title: Argentina playing games again....
Post by: tunnie on 04 May 2012, 10:35:25

Bit cheeky filming that, lets hope they don't get any medals!

Very interesting comparison here on the military situation now, compared with '82. Good points raised around that a lack of Aircraft carriers is not the nail in coffin everyone thinks. Only way they can hope to re-take them is via the Civilian Aircraft ploy.

Hope we give them two fingers on a 50/50 split with oil though  >:(

I'm undecided about the legal ownership of the Falklands/Malvinas..........but the President of Argentina is quite easy on the eye..... ::) ::) :)

I would suggest it is very simple Opti. The islands belong to the islanders, not the UK or argentina. Same as Gibraltar belongs to the Gibraltans, not the UK or Spain. And a few other places in similar situations. If those places want to ally to the UK that is there choice. No other country should be able to decide on someone else's fate.

And yes I am aware of that fiasco involving the UK somewhere in the Indian ocean, now that is a travesty.

At the end of the day, the inhabitants of the Falkland Islands are indigenous to the islands and have been for generations.
They choose to be a part of the United Kingdom and we want them too  :y
That is what the United Nations look at so the argies haven't got a fooking hope in hell of getting the islands.

If they ever did try the trick with a civvy airliner, declare war on them and level there infrastructure with tomahawks and watch the nutty rather bitch's country go back to the dark ages  ;)

Don't forget sinking what little ships they have, I'm sure we have a sub lurking around those parts.

Military wise, the Argies are still in the 80's so they are screwed on all counts.

Not quite  ;)

Those pesky little skyhawks was kindly updated with the radar and weapons system off the first generation F16's by our loyal friends and allies, the good old US of A  about 1998 >:( >:(

Well whats left of them anyway after the Royal Navy's missile systems and the Sea Harriers had finished playing with them  :y ;D ;D

Well put Sir  :y

Reaction to Argentine Olympic Advert
We were very disappointed this morning to see the advert from the Argentine Presidential Office, attempting to politicise the Olympics in service of their territorial ambitions. This video was filmed without the knowledge of the Falkland Islands authorities. It is deeply sad to see Mr Zylberberg clambering over a war memorial, especially in this anniversary year. Sadly, this illustrates the disrespect the Argentine authorities have for our home and our people. Unsurprisingly, at no stage does the video feature any Falkland Islanders – a clear reflection of Argentina’s policy, which is to pretend that the people of the Falkland Islands do not exist. It is time the world took note – we do exist, and as with all people we have rights, which the Argentine Government is trying to deny us. We are our own people, who through nine generations have lived and worked in these islands for nearly 200 years. We determine our own future, and we will not be bullied by the Argentine Government, neither by their attempts to undermine our economy, nor by their constant misrepresentation of the truth, nor by pieces of cheap and disrespectful propaganda such as this. It is hugely disappointing to see sport abused in this way, when it is so often seen as a vehicle for unity. It seems an act of desperation to sink to this.Hon. If the Argies got hold of serious quantities of oil, they would turn into another Bahrain......

....a very desperate government with major internal problems, still makes a good smoke screen for her!

As for the oil that is there, so far only small Falkland Island owned companies have made attempts to drill for it.
These small fry have been looked at by the Majors, BP, Shell, Chevron etc but nothing happening at the moment. I guess once the extent of the fields are known, then the big boys will step in, buy out the small fry (share deal for everyone) and then..... who knows.

One thing is Argentina will have to have a say in matters as the supply boats will have to load and unload there.
There was talk about developing Stanley Airfield to take freight flights, also upgrade the harbour to take sea freight. It's all about money though, how much in the way of returns? Still a long way away for getting stuff there, as for flights for the crew changes????

I would have thought if big amounts of oil were found, they would extend Stanley's ports. Get around the hassle of Argentina, should hopefully pish them off some more  ;D

Aye, that would be quite easy, after all they are big enough at the moment to take cruise liners. The hard part, like I said would be getting the crews there, I'm talking about senior crew, supervisors and the like....plenty of Brits in that category.
Most oil drilling companies use commercial flights, can't see them setting up flights to Ascension Islands!!
I'll have to find out what went on in that regard from a few mates who were down there on the Ocean Guardian during the last exploration round a couple of years back.... be interesting to know how they managed it.
Normally, working abroad, all the junior positions are taken up by locals to keep the costs down, can't see there being many experienced roustabouts and floormen on the Falklands and they certainly don't want to employ Argies, LOL       FIGHT!!!!

If need be, it might be a idea to have a word with Chile.
Last time I heard, there was no love lost with them and the argies.

Half of Argentines national debt is down to amount of face lifts that old trout has had. It seems when ever there's a chance a politician in Argentina is looking at furthering their, they instantly get on the Falkland isle saga. For goodness sake when will it get through........... go fly a kite. The Falklanders don't want to be Argentinian they've made it clear. The Argies are now resulting to cheap shots as they've run out of ideas. Even their neighbours don't really support them and as already stated  Chile are more than willing to muck in. So I'd say stuff ya 50% ya getting nowt and then do business else where in southern america. Now here's a question for ya. Let's say the Falklanders decide they want independence. If that was to happen what argument would the Argies how then? Only real option for them then I guess is to invade again. However they probably haven't serviced the oil in the aircraft from 30 years ago!!!!

The argentinian president de kirchner is getting more desperate where the county is and is run like a banana republic. Not content with being a country of failed land stealers, and oil company stealers, they now try to hijack the Olympics.  >:( >:( >:(

I didn't use capitals when typing botox chops name and position as she is not worth the effort of pressing the shift key.  :y

Clever enough advert. The US maker seems to have distanced themselves from it. Typical.

Argentina has started a South American trend of nationalising foreign owned assets. E.g. Repsol (Spanish) oil interests. That has sent the IBEX into freefall as Bolivia etc have started doing the same. They aren't as daft as they may look!! ;D
