That is a symptom of the ABS ECU failing....

Expensive to replace, even second hand, provided you can get the correct match. Best bet is to get your own unit refurbed. Can't remember the recommended company's name off the top of my head though ... :-\
It'll come back to me, but I'm sure you'll have had a load of responses before my brain gets into gear :-[

Need to check your codes on your unit, below pas bottle will be codes on it, might need to wipe the top off, you might not need to code if you buy the right one....

Get yours refurbed, around £120. Can still use car without ECU just wrap the pump in polythene bag

Given your symptoms that has little chance of working ... :(
This is a known fault inside the ECU, the only remedy is repair or replace.
Repair by BBA-REMAN cost around £130 about 4 years ago, do a google for them then phone for latest price, service is fast and has (had) a 2 year warranty. No Tech2 or reprograming needed as the ECU is "yours"
Replacement needs either the same engine/transmision AND model year or it needs a tech2 session to programme to your car. New from Vx is basically silly money, a 2nd hand one may well be about to suffer the same internal failure .... you take the chance I guess.
Work is fiddly not hard, access is the problem, empty the swearbox before you start !!!
Driving without the ECU gives certain problems ... no ABS, No Speedo, No power steering, and probably no insurance if they found out .... I only did 4 miles in mine without the ECU and said enough ... the ECU was back within 5 days anyway.

If you are close to a tech2, might be worth a dabble first. But I expect either no comms, or no faults found.
:(

Not entirely correct - gives reduced power assistance to steering - car almost undriveable with no power steering! ABS & TC lights on gives no traction control and no abs - brakes otherwise will work as normal. For no speedo use rev counter to assess speed (non working speedo is not an MOT failure!!)
I went the second hand route for the Elite Estate - got one off here for £45 same model/year/transmission - worked ok with no need for Tech2. B*gger to fit due to space resrictions and only managed to refit 5/6 bolts. Still going ok when car sold (4 years after fitting). Also sold faulty one to a reconditioner on ebay for £50 + VAT!!
HTH ;)

1 - clean sensor's on 4 wheels
2 - get a tech 2 on it
3 - if ALL ELSE FAILS find a second hand one hopefully same year trans etc and fit it
-
Just had a thought could having my spare wheel on cause any of this as it only started after i put it on

Bosch, in their infinite wisdom, decided to link the circuit board in the ECU to the multipin connector with a series of ultra fine wires and then cover them in glue. I haven't had one apart but I have read that some of the wires are gold and so thin that you need a microscope to see them and some are thicker aluminium.
The aluminium wires suffer from stress fractures and cause the failures.
Anyone carrying out the repair needs specialist skills to expose the broken wires without breaking any more, they then need to be able to bond the aluminium wires to the circuit board.
The cause of your problem is not a mystery and the repair is straightforward given the necessary skills and equipment.

no its not the same but on the vidio looks like you have either 1 of 3 problems
1) wire shorting out causing lights to dim
2) altanator on the way out
3) battery problems/charging problems
hope this helps and thankx for trying ;D

If you`ve got the SAI system active and it`s just on cold start only, pull the SAI fuse
-
I don't know if it's active or not, sorry. Is it 29a fuse, 40A in the picture below?

Sorry but how does the ABS ECU failure cause the power steering to fail

Sorry but how does the ABS ECU failure cause the power steering to fail
Power steering on the Omega is electronically variable, and is adjusted with speed.... called "Servotronic" I believe. The speed signal comes via the ABS ECU, so failure of the ABS ECU results in the power steering defaulting to a very base setting .... this is very noticeable as the ECU fails because it is intermittent .. so the power steering assistance is also intermittent .. which I found very disconcerting !! Once the ABS ECU was removed then the system was stable but with very little assistance ... ie .. very heavy

Thanks for that .. so 2/3rds of an engine gets 1/3rd of the toys .. :) Serve 'em right for not buying a "proper" engined car .. :)
