Hi all, i have what appears to be a leaking air con pump...I have had it pressure tested, and nitrogen tested which produced no signs of any leaks...However, when it is re-gassed, the front clutch appears to frost up so we believe the pump has had it...Has anyone had to have this changed, and a rough guide on price/difficulty would be of help...Thanks.

Changed a couple. Bit 'fiddly' but not hard. 2 people make it easier, one underneath trying to get the pipes on and off, another from top undoing the bolt that holds pipes on.
-
Thanks for the reply, any idea on price?? I am guessing not cheap from VX :(
-
tradeclub, about £250 on exchange basis IIRC, for refurbed
-
MarksDTM refered me to somewhere else for the compressor for mine ........... can't remember now who though :-[
-
Avoid the dealers whatever happens. Try a used one from a breakers in the parts section or Steve in Heathrow, a member here. ;)
-
Although how does the clutch frost up? :-\
Is it engaging and turning as it should?

........... Try a used one from a breakers in ............
I wouldn't use a 2nd hand compressor, you've no way at all of telling whether the seals in it are any good. ;)
-
Fair comment I suppose. I certainly wouldn't use vx though. Not without crying rape.
How much are seals?

I've never tried to strip a compressor ........... there's a GM compressor in my garage if you want to try ;) but I'm pretty sure you need specifc pullers to strip one down. As said, Mark recommended a supplier & I bought mine from them. It's still working a few years/summers down the line. :y

Hi, the clutch engages and spins as it should with gas in, but the gas runs out after barely a week...It appears the clutch frosts up on the front, so i am assuming its leaking, and thats why the gas lasts for such a short time.

It leaks ;) ;) I just couldn't bring myself to chuck what seems to be a well built item. I'd intended to donate it to Vauxhall for their exchange plan. :y

O.K, thanks anyway...I will go with Rob Gs link, and spend my hard earnt money to keep cool on e-bay :'(...Much appreciated. :y

I'm sure someone posted a link to a rebuild guide for these air con compressors a while back.. Didn't look too challenging on the face of it. Not sure if it was here or the ABS forum. :-\

Hi, can i just check something??I have been advised that i need to exactly match the part number to my old one, is that correct before i go ahead and order? ???
-
I doubt there were any changes to the air con compressor over the life of the Omega although I can't check currently. It's a fairly generic Harrison part used over a wide range of vehicles.
Incidentally, this prompted me to look for the guide I saw to overhauling these compressors. I think this is it:
http://60degreev6.com/forum/showthread.php/48879-V5-A-C-compressor-teardown-re-seal (http://60degreev6.com/forum/showthread.php/48879-V5-A-C-compressor-teardown-re-seal)
Kits of seals are available on e-bay fairly cheap. Might be worth a go at refurbing one?

Almost all compressors are serviceable. To be fair vx ones are harder than other makes. When we are talking about compatibility - I had faulty compressor on my old Omega which is 2.0 8v c20ne made in 1995 and i used compressor from 2.2 16v ecotec FL omega made in 2001. There was a difference - instead of hexagonal bolt for pipe attachment they use alan key ;D .
Hope this helps
