Air Con
« on: 29 July 2012, 09:55:08 »

Hi all, i have what appears to be a leaking air con pump...I have had it pressure tested, and nitrogen tested which produced no signs of any leaks...However, when it is re-gassed, the front clutch appears to frost up so we believe the pump has had it...Has anyone had to have this changed, and a rough guide on price/difficulty would be of help...Thanks.

Changed a couple. Bit 'fiddly' but not hard. 2 people make it easier, one underneath trying to get the pipes on and off, another from top undoing the bolt that holds pipes on.

Avoid the dealers whatever happens. Try a used one from a breakers in the parts section or Steve in Heathrow, a member here. ;)

I wouldn't use a 2nd hand compressor, you've no way at all of telling whether the seals in it are any good.  ;)

Fair comment I suppose. I certainly wouldn't use vx though. Not without crying rape.

How much are seals?

I've never tried to strip a compressor ........... there's a GM compressor in my garage if you want to try  ;) but I'm pretty sure you need specifc pullers to strip one down. As said, Mark recommended a supplier & I bought mine from them. It's still working a few years/summers down the line.  :y

Hi, the clutch engages and spins as it should with gas in, but the gas runs out after barely a week...It appears the clutch frosts up on the front, so i am assuming its leaking, and thats why the gas lasts for such a short time.
