Title: Global petrol price rankings
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 19 August 2012, 00:14:55
According to Bloomberg's Gas Price Ranking, Britain has the tenth most expensive petrol in the world!  :(  Sadly for Cem, Turkey comes second behind Norway!  :'(

Apparently to fill up a 39 gallon tank in Norway it will cost $394.68!!  :o  However in Venezuela it costs $3.51!!!  :o :o  Lucky Venezuelan's!!  8)

Although The Philippines is at number 47 in the rankings, because of the low wages, you will need to use 70% of your daily wage to buy a gallon of petrol, whereas in Britain we use 7.4%! No wonder they all drive mopeds in The Philippines!!  ;)

There is me, trying to use petrol :o

The hire car companies here (and elsewhere) have a great scam - when you pick up a car, it has a full tank that you pay extra for, and supposedly return it empty. Now a clapped out Focus will do 550km to a tank, going by fuel computer. I will do half that by the time I hand it back. I bet the next hirer pays for a full tank as well. And the hire companies cream that profit  >:(

I've always been given a hire car with a full tank, you just return it with a full tank  :-\

That used to be the norm, or pick it up empty, return with however much you like.

But I think a lot of the hire car places have cottoned on to this way of making more - when I was in Spain, I paid €60-70 (can't remember exactly) for a full tank of diesel in a 1.3CDTi Corsa. I did about 250 miles, returned in back 2/3rds full (despite driving from La Manga to Alicante in 3rd gear to use fuel), so thats a straight extra €40 profit they have made...

That sounds like a lot.

Round here: £1.35 a litre = £6.17 a gallon X 1.55( £ to $ ) = $9.50 a gallon X 39 = $370.50.

All conversions approx but not that much difference. ???

Make my above post £1.40 a litre and it's probably dearer than Norway.

I'm guessing he either used a Tesco 10p off a litre voucher, or hasn't filled since coming back from his hols ;)

But what's the average salary in Venezuela? It's a year old, but: http://www.eluniversal.com/2011/02/04/en_ing_esp_average-household-in_04A5099091.shtml

Then again, those figures make it seem quite a 'wealthy' country, relative to some of the other South American countries - I wonder what the real story is; I wouldn't mind betting those arithmetic means are skewed high by a small proportion of high earners..

All those UK QE £'s and US QE $ that Governments are using to stuff the banks full of cash have to go somewhere to make a profit. Banks know that oil and food are on a one way trip while they keep piling this money into them. Much saver than lending, as with that, they might not get it back. It also means bigger bankster bonuses sooner.

Much better for Governments as well as it stokes inflation where they are tying to inflate their debts away. Biggest side effect is depression where increased oil and food cost stop productive growth and Governments lending to banks instead of companies reinforces this as the money in not invested in industry.  >:( >:( >:(

Now if the oil and food prices are growing up a bit slowly, all banksters need to do is start a new rumour, last week it was Israel getting closer to a war with Iran, and hey presto, prices shoot up again. Trebles all round in the city.  >:( >:( >:(

So guess who is paying the price of this: Pensioner and anybody on a fixed income, savers, people that eat food and use any energy directly or indirectly. So that means us the consumer as usual.  >:( >:( >:(

Anybody want to buy one of my forehead 'Mug' stickers, they are £4.95, £7.95, £9.99 each to you, but be quick as they are made of plastic so the price is tied to a barrel of oil and the $ exchange rate.  :o :o :o ;D ;D ;D

Mmmm LPG. :)

Had to fill the M3 up at Warwick services today as the light was on and I didn't think I'd make it to the cheap(er) Shell in Solihull tonight; 150.9p for BP Optimax (the M3 specifies 98RON). I did wince a bit, especially when I spotted the price of LPG there (76.9p, I think!)...
