Title: brake pipe care
Post by: r1 on 20 August 2012, 17:02:06
whats the best way to look after metal brake pipes?
i suppose the best way is to replace with copper but they are in good condition with just a bit of rust so ive rubbed them down and was either going to paint them or use some underseal on them, but i dont know if mr m.o.t man would like that. can you paint/ cover them or is that a mot no no?
cheers

you can do what you want to them as long as it does not affect the saftey of the vehicle :y

Spray as much of the crap known as "Underbody Schultz" on as you like.
The MOT tester is NOT allowed to to remove anything (paint or otherwise) from a vehicle under test, and Schultz hides a multitude of sins if need be  ;)

you can paint them with anti-rust type paints.. but best is epoxy which is poisonous and requires  a mask

My nice Mr MOT Man picked mine up the other week when I MOT'd my Omega, so I'll be using a bit of Kluber (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kluber-Isoflex-Grease-NBU-15-400g-Cartridge-/130744438855?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e70f9d047) on them. The stickiest, thickest grease known to man!

It'll be added to the overall cost of a tin of Beanz  ...........................  ::)

Used to use this on winch gears at my old place, bloody evil stuff. Even a hot jet wash wouldn't fetch it off :o

Why would you want to hide possible problems with brake pipes? I would want to know and rectify.... ::) ::)

I don't think hiding any problems is the issue. He wants to preserve them as long as he can. I don't blame him :y
