Yes, welded the floor pans on a 1.6, used an old road sign (honest your honour), when it was being sold on the owner was hoovering it and put the vac through the sill......that took a quick bit of fixing.

That and the crappy gearboxes with the diff bearing play (clunking, oil leaks and the speedo jumping), horrific engines which were black death citadels and the vinyl dashes that split (like most cars of that era!).

Add in the K jet fuel injectionssetups on the 1.6 with the fuel pump relay and fuel pump issues there was not much in thier favour. Its funny because the Mk2 Fiesta was as bad as well when the Mk1 Fiesta and Mk2 Escort where so much better.

The old screwdriver poke on the bodywork will test it , the inner front wings fell off my mk5 cortina and front corner chassis rails suffer  ;D had them all repaired on mine , still like the cortina mk5 but fancy a Mk1  :-*

Rear chassis rails above springs on the mk5 used to rust like an old tin bucket

I must of had a good one for that then  :) Mine was a white car , not very good at hiding the rust especially on the sills but a neat body kit dealt with that  ::)got rid of it when the electrics started to rot and cause havoc  :( Id have another one though  :-X
