Well after only 6 months of omega ownership, i've decided it was time i got something more economical than a 2.6 for my 64 mile a day commute ::) also, the omega needed a lot of work doin, and tax and so on and on and on... :(
Anyways bought myself this...
http://www.arnoldclark.com/used-cars/skoda/octavia/2.0-tdi-cr-vrs-5dr-dsg/2011-(12)/ref/arnfy-2014/
Pick it up Friday :D
I'd just like to say that i did truly love owning the omega, its the nicest car i have ever driven and probably ever will, and also a huge thanks to the forum, its been a great source of info and a BIG thanks to daz for offering to travel all the way up to sunny glasgow and do me some work for a very good price. But couldnt justify spending the money on it in the end :-[
-
Goodluck with that....
Hopefully it will be reliable, but can't see it costing less than the Omega overall :-\
-
luuuurvly new car mate :y
-
Haha well ye its cost more than the omega obv, but hopefully it shall serve me well for what i require ;)
-
Good luck with it :y
-
Good luck.
I hope your car is everything that it should be, because if not, Arnold doesn't have a good reputation. ??? ??? http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews67375.html & there are these http://arnoldclark.150m.com/html/mail74.htm though from a good few years ago.

Dealer notwithstanding, injectors are almost an Omega each, DPF could buy at least 3, and as for the gearbox and electric handbrake....
You pays your money etc :-\
-
then again i did 110,000 in 18 months in one and it did'nt miss a beat :y

Spend that 18 months driving around town, doing short journeys and see how long the DPF lasts ::)

but your Omega won't last forever & will one day need to be replaced. You can't chose A N Other car by how much bit MIGHT cost if something breaks. Some say that the 7 speed g/box on my Merc can be iffy, others say there's no problem with it. :-\
-
All very true :y just not a big VAG fan, me ::) and as I've said elsewhere changing a car because it's percieved to be expensive is a shortsighted way of thinking imho :-\ Dwelling on the 'what if's' doesn't achieve anything. Hopefully Iain will find his new purchase reliable and long lived... :-X
-
not exactly changing because i perceive the omega in general as an expensive car, just my one is :'( I could go through with the long list of mechanics it needs (timing belt, oil cooler, rocker cover gaskets, service, tyres...) then move onto getting it to look as cosmetically perfect as i intended, aka 100% perfect :P, but in the long run that is a LOT of money to spend on a car that will, eventually, need replacing. And likely in the near future, so the money would be wasted! then i'd be in the same situation a bit further down the line. At the end of the day i'm only 21, so see it as a good investment! It will save me money on my daily commute, i wont have the constant fear of breaking down on the way to/from work in the middle of nowhere, it is slightly cheaper to insure and when i come to sell it on it should still have a bit of value. :y

Exactly right andy, they are terrible in terms of customer service. Unfortunately round my way your choices consist of Arnold Clark, Arnold Clark or Machargs, who are owned by....you guessed it, Arnold Clark :-\ If i could avoid using them i would have, beleive me, only up side is my bro in law works as a mech for them, so got a discount on the car and get manufacturer parts cheap!

Andy. That's an understatement judging by the customer reviews. About 90% of them are one star. :-\
It looks like the customer service at AC is shite. :-\
Nice car however. :y
-
Trust me opti, i'd rather drag my balls across 3 miles of broken glass than have to deal with arnolds customer service :'( like i said tho, not much choice, hopefully i will never need to see the customer service ;D and thanks for the nice commentss guys
-
I keep forgetting that new cars don't need servicing, or tyres or cambelts changing (which is a service item btw). ::)
-
I like the look of the car , hope it serves you well :y

According to Which Magazine Survey's the Skoda Octavia is the sixth best car to own! :y

Not exactly "aptly named" either. My cousin has a kit car based on one. With practically all the bodywork removed it still doesn't set the world alight.
I wonder if it's a trait they continued with the "Superb".

Probably not, but you could hardly call it the Skoda Not Bad ;D ;D

No idea what you mean! ::) ::) ::)
1. How do you double the price of a skoda?
Fill up the tank
2. Why do skodas have heated rear windscreens?
To keep your hands warm while your pushing it.
3. Have you got a wing mirror for a skoda?
Okay, seems like a fair swap
4. What do you call a skoda driver who say's he has a speeding ticket ?
A Dreamer
5. How do you double the value of a skoda?
Chuck a penny in it.
6. What do you call a Skoda with a sun roof ?
A skip

Indeed. Drive at the right end, plenty of weight over the driven wheels. IIRC the engine overhangs the back a bit, so might be a bit lively in a 911 kind of way, but not so much power, so perhaps not as deadly when the engine decides it'd rather be at the front?
I bet they were breathed-on a bit, though. By way of tuning, IIRC, the Alfa boxer engines will bolt on. :-*

Nor could they call the Fabia the "Non-confrontational socialist", I suppose. ::)
.. and as for the Favorit.. Not in a million years.. ;D

One chap at work has one. Goes well enough... when it goes. Hope it lasts better than another mates '11 plate 2.0tdi 170 4x4 Superb. One owner from new with full Skoda history, just had to have a new head at 85k ::)

As we know with Omega's though, garages often mis-diagnose. Wonder if the problem was much more simple, although probably caused by their own long service schedule?

Nothing, just wait around for fifty years! See this!

Apparently not. The review I read a few months back said it was very aptly named. Couldn't fault it. Although I think a manufacturer who names a car like that is potentially setting themselves up for a fall later
