May not be sky fault but something to do with The dish and LNB.

Have noticed on my setup that the signals are different on each tuner, the best one is only about 75%.  But have read somewhere that if not alined properly this is what causes the signal loss in bad weather, apparenly a dish should still be ok with an inch of snow covering it.

Maybe a local guy from your free press could re align it or check it for you for a few quid.

Really? Seems an odd response if your service isn't working. Why dont you change providers?

Although did Tunnie not offer to sort it out for you previously?

I highly recommend BT's Vision.  Of course you need their phone line and Broadband Hub, but I have no complaints about any of it.

Used to be a Sky customer when it was £10 a month for a complete package, but now I think it is over priced for what I actually would use! ;)

If your signals low and it's unlikely the dish has moved, check your cable first, the ends should unscrew off the cable. If the copper is black/dark green then it's water ingress, either trim cable back till its copper, if you don't have enough spare length, change the entire length. If that don't cure it, then it could be that the dish has dropped slightly over time, it doesn't have to move far to lose signal or strength, sounds like to be water to be honest.

Need to get it checked - signal strength too.

My set up was fine. I changed receiver and then only received 10% of channels. Changed dish to a slightly larger one I had lying around - all fine.

If rains causes a problem it is unlikely to be the fault of Sky

Tunnie, a Sky employee, has more than once offered to try to get this sorted, but the OP refused.  I do believe some people just like to have something to moan about. So I'm struggling to see what the real problem is.

To the OP, clearly you are unhappy with the service you get, best thing you can do is cancel it :y

My dish is set at 100% signal and 97% quality and with an inch snow it loses signal, this problem is more to do with water in the cable or the dish has dropped, poss water damage to LNB

I rarely bother to get the meter out to help people align them.

My phone call went:
"My signal goes when it rains".

It sometimes happens when the rain is very heavy sir.

"It happens when the rain is not heavy".

We can send an engineer but you'll have to pay.

"I already pay £67 a month, but we can soon put a stop to that".

We'll book you an appointment sir, no charge.

Mine is poor at the best of times, dreadful when the weather is bad >:( No fault of Sky though... My dish is high on a pole that moves in the slightest wind and even then the line of sight to the satellite is partially obscured by trees ::)

Hopefully it will improve in the next week to 10 days when I relocate it to a pole in the back garden and also use a larger diameter dish :y

Yup, offered more than once to raise it internally. I could get someone out for free to fix it, but constantly snubbed. He just likes to moan, its about the 4th time hes posted this  ::)

How many times did I offer to fix it for you? To get people over to inspect it? I used my freedom of speech on many occasions, kindly offering to raise your case internally.

At keast we will have an end to similar pointless threads, which update us on the weather near you.

Just lately we are being contacted by everyone trying to give a better deal , seems something is stirring to make them do this ... its a cut throat business i guess . The cheapest wins but best idea is not to enter any fixed contract then you can switch to another better deal when not happy  :y
Title: Re: sky crap again
Post by: feeutfo on 24 November 2012, 11:44:41
Bah...If one switched, one would have nothing to moan about. Or, if one did switch, one would undoubtedly find something else to moan about. In fact, if one had nothing at all to moan about, one would moan about having nothing at all to moan about.

Or, actually, if one left sky one would have nothing to poke Tunnie in the chest about. In fact, one wonders, if one has a sky contract.... at all! Else why wouldn't one accept help to sort it? Hmm? :)

Not sure the alternatives are any better. If you're lucky enough to live in a VM area, they are well known for the way they treat customers. Any non VM company will use BT lines, and I can't think of many that have a reputation better than BT TBH.

I use BT for both physical lines here at home, and for one of the broadband lines. Zen Internet provide the other broadband.

I have to say EMD I have been with BT for longer than I can remember now.  Always found them excellent,  and when it comes to those rare Broadband faults I have received great, very understandable, service from our friends in India 8) 8)

Often using a remote link, they have always solved the technical problems, and I have had great chats about India and the weather out there at 0200 hours in the morning! :D :D :y

Really polite and good English speaking inteligent people ;)

I think EMD you have just been very unlucky.

BT's Vision box for me is ace, giving me all the digital services I need.
