.....we lost Freddie Mercury.
I was living in Paris at the time.
I remember the day even now.
Where were you?
-
I was just at home, and couldn't believe it.
The tribute gig was the following year.

21 years! :o
Is it that long ago, it doesn't seem like it! That was 2 house moves, one budgie, 5 dogs and numerous Tropical Fish ago! :D
We were sat at home when his death was announced, there will never be another anything like him :(

By `eck, can`t believe it was that long ago...it is / was a great loss of a showman, singer and personality, I was absolutely gutted when I heard the news dont forget I was nearly 50, hardly some teeny bopper, had followed them from there early 70`s stuff, got virtually all the stuff they ever put out,
Bohemian Rhapsody is still the greatest record ever....

21 years ago would have been in pub/club drinkinking, :)

I was at university. :(
I remember watching the news on a ruddy great old TV that I found dumped in someone's front garden. I'd lugged it back to the halls of residence, removed the weeds that were growing out of the back and nursed it back to health.
He was truly irreplaceable, as time has borne witness. :y

Mrs Michael here., my brother loved Queen, freddie was his idol, sadly my brother died 14years ago, we had his headstone done with the emblem off the album a night at the opera, had to have permission to do that. That would make him smile, and hopefully he knocking out a few more good tunes with freddie! his favourite song was, dont stop me now, played it at his funeral. yea freddie was a great singer, a one off. :'(

I do not feel like so many do obviously here about Freddie Mercury, probably because I was of the previous generation.
However I know how you all feel as I felt that about the murder of John Lennon in 1980. When it came across the car radio (in a Cortina Mk5 Estate) I was gutted, and just cried and cried. :'( :'( :'( :'(
John, and the other Beatles had been part of my early life since the age of 10, and losing John, especially in that way, was devastating. It was like losing a close member of my family.
So, yes, remember Freddie and John.
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Freddie Mecury and Queen ::) ::) ::) Not my taste at all, but obviously very talented.
I'm with Lizzie, part 0f the beat generation and losing Lennon was a shock especially in the circumstances. :'( :'(
I bet she was Rocker, I'll get on my Lambretta :-* :-* ;) :y :y
21 years ago I was still dancing all night at the 100 Club 8) 8) :D :y

Do you know I can't remember? I remember the run up to his death. The house he was having built abroad etc but then I never was much of a queen fan. Now Live aid I can tell you exactly where I was. In a field just outside Littlehampton camping. We had a real groovy thunderstorm that night and we had a particularly loud clap of thunder which we soon found out to be an anal explosion from Philippa!!!! Oh lordy I'm crying with laughter writing this and this was back in July 85.

I loved both Cleggy! I loved the Easy Rider theme and the Hells Angels with Harley's, but also was head over heals about a Parker wearing, red /white Lambretta 200 riding boy with lamps, mirrors, and tiger tails all over it!! :-* :-* :-* :-* 8)
How I was pleased so easily when I was young ::) ::) ::) :P

One of my biggest regrets / opps ups was never seeing queen live :(
Out in sausage land at the time and had tickets to see them live.
I had had my name down for a sking course for ages and guess what ............. both came up at the same time so thinking i'd have plenty of chances in the future, I sold the tickets for a shed full and sat back waiting for the course to come up then lady luck strikes ::) :'( during a friendly game of footy at the back of the hanger while the kites was fogged in, I broke my ankle :'( :'( :'(. That was the end of the sking course and no tickets either :( :( :(
As for freddy, imho I don't think there has been or will every will be a better frontman for any band ever :)
A wonderfull opera trained voice and a pure genius of the music industry :) :)
Greatest track .............. for me it has to be In My Defence off his solo album.
Just love to play it loud in the car, sing howl along and embarase myself too it ;D ;D
One of the few who imo went well before his time :(
