Title: Broken internet explorer
Post by: mantahatch on 11 December 2012, 13:06:22
Have to use internet explorer 8 at work. Messed about with the cookies setting to block all cookies to see what functionality was like.
Have now reset all functions to default settings and when I reply or post on OOF I am left looking at a blank page. And often logged out. I have discovered by pressing F5 I get an error message but remain logged in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just start using Google to search the web.

Far superior in all respects. :y

Do you mean Chrome Lizzie? If so, I wouldn't allow it on my system... Too buggy and insecure

Yes, and I have found it to be superb. :y :y

It leaves the Windows Internet Explorer standing, being able to roam and find sites that WIE states does not exist, and that is once it comes to life!! ::) ::)

Restart in Safe mode, then follow the link to use system restore to go back to before the alterations. I find this works better than using sysrestore from normal use, as it always has restore points avlbl. :y

Currently using firefox, Looks like my work has disabled system restore and safe mode not available. Comes up with some bitlocker code required.

Still if I break it enough they may have to get me another one  ;D

Why are so many against Google Chrome?

You are all worrying me now, although I have never encountered a problem and find it very quick and realiable :o :o :o :o :o

It has so many vulnerabilities that make it easy for a hacker to perform various attacks on your system.

Its desperately insecure. Look at how many critical (ie, remotely exploitable without authentication) flaws are announced on a weekly basis.

IE is streets ahead of both Chrome and FF when it comes to security, as MS have been through all that shite back in the 90's and early 00's

True but IE can be very unstable plus useful add-on scripts make it run horrendously slow....  I can understand why people turn their backs on it :y

Plugins and ruin the speed/reliability/security of any browser.  Allowing 3rd party addins running in the same security context as the main app always has the ability to ruin the main app.

Treu and that is acceptable up to a point.  The Java/IE experience is horrendous right now but SWMBO needs java for work.

Indeed Guffer, that has been my experience and that is why I use Google Chrome.  But now I hear what others are warning about, and now I am worried! :o :o :o :o :o :o

You should be Lizzie - Chrome is very insecure - my advice is to go IE, and if that feels slow, go for Firefox.  I have bith IE & FF on my systems and tend to use FF mainly - HTH :y

If IE is slow, uninstall or disable non required plugins and toolbars.

Oh, and run an AV and anti malware scan

Don't disagree TB, but in my experience FF is generally faster than IE ;)
