Title: gayPhone has an attitude problem.
Post by: TheBoy on 23 February 2013, 10:18:25
Regulars will know of my rants about crApples useless, pathetic, pointless voice dialling feature, that will call everyone in your address book, accept the one you want.

Well, in order to improve matters, I decided to enable Siri - crApple's server assisted Voice Assistant.

So, I'm having a conversation with the phone...

Me: "Call Mrs TheBoy at home"
pause
Phone: "Why, precisely?"
Eh?
Me: "Because I want to speak to her"
pause
Phone: "I can help you"

Siri now disabled again.  I have an old bag at home who is perfectly capable of answering me back, I don't need the bloody phone to do it.

Lucky that didn't happen on the Aston expressway by the sound of it. ::)

Not really, it's crApple's poor system. I've never had a phone so bad at voicedialling. Even my old nokia was perfect at 100mph on the bike.

The pauses were to be expected, TBH, as was in a 2g only area (well, 2g for a 3GS that doesn't support 3g 900Mhz)

Must admit it is shite with background noise but works OK(ish) for an assistant :-\ :-\

As you managed to prove to me once, if you speak clearly it works fine ::) Perhaps it's your accent :-X

Don't understand why poor signal affects the voice dialling so badly, but it does. :-\

I must learn to talk in an American-Chinese voice, maybe it would be usable then....

With Siri, it has to go off to Steve Jobs, and ask him.

With Siri disabled, its all on-phone, so should work no matter what the internet is like.

I can understand Siri needing Steve Jobs. But why does voice dialling need web acess at all? The 4 doesn't have Siri, voice dialling only, yet signal drops and no worky. :-\

You should know the numbers of all the local gay haunts off by heart.

My clunky 3gs, voicedialling is fast without Siri. Always wrong, but fast.  So not sure why yours should be so shite. Unless crApple built in a facility on the gayPhone 4 that the call could only happen after asking Sir Steve?

it can't recognise the name spoken, it there's no or little signal. There's a pop up if you voice dial with no signal, buggered if I can remember what it says though. Last time it played up was when O2 had signal/network issues.

Other wise it works beautifully. Consistently understands every name spoken. So upgrade your steam powered form over function device. ;)

Not tried it on the 5 yet though. :(

But my little 3GS does everything yours does, bar camera flash. I use a camera to pictures. Much better.

I criticised iPhone voice dialling, until I realised that it had to be spoken as it appears in the contacts list.  ::) ::)
ie. I was saying 'Mrs YZ250 mobile' when I should have been saying 'Mobile Mrs YZ250', because that's how she appears in my contacts list.  ::) ::) ;D

Still not sure why it kept phoning Brewers Fayre though.  :-\

except, crucially, anything that could even remotely be called, quick, fast, instant, rapid and user friendly. Where as mine does all of these things, while using electricity, as opposed to fossil fuel. :)

My gayPhone now sports a new case and a new screen protector - that chunk out of the screen had only just touched the glass, protector taking the brunt :D
