Title: Jeep lpg help needed
Post by: ffcgary1 on 15 March 2013, 18:01:32
This post is aimed at thos good people on here with extensive lpg know how,

Heres the problem, i have a 4.0ltr jeep with a KME ECU, KME GOLD VAPOURISER, MAGIC JET INJECTORS, and it had started running rough and has developed a misfire which is intermittant, sometimes it will run fine for a few weeks or months then it will play up and be undrivable on gas for a few days before running fine again.
I am sure the problem is dirty filters, and i will be changing them as soon as i can but i would like someone to hook it up to a lappy and check its ecu settings and poss tweek it if needed.
Heres the second problem, i do not have an interface lead to connect it to a lappy or any kind of software program to check  it against so how do i go on from here, is there a universal set up program or am i stuffed.
the system was installed in Poland in 2001 and have no other info on the install.
It has a 70 LTR TANK in the boot and had a new gas valve installed in 2011.

help help help
 Can travel where needed.
Gary.

What system us it? Stag? Bmc? Should be a name on the ecu. If its stag, a few members here have a stag lead.

Ah, yes sorry. Might struggle for a lead here. eBay?

Mean time, I had agro with mine recently, gunked up injectors. Might be worth s flush out with carb cleaner. Vap as well. There's a drain on the bottom of that gold vap on the ones we have here.

Any access to live data on the car ecu? Any fuel trim info?

Seats on the injectors don't last much more than 60k so might be worth replacing. But some diags would Benin order first as you say.

Kev or Lazytinker will be along, no doubt. :)

I have no ecu live data or any access to it sorry chris, i dont mind spannering but lpg is a bit too much for me, most lpg companys are saying they have no software to support this system but i can belive that or they just want to rip it out and install there own,. i will look at the drain this weekend and go from there, as to the injectors are they able to be dismantled.
I read your post about cleaning with carb cleaner, so will look at that as well.

Any good? Kme have a web site but software for they're own kit isn't obviously available. Usually comes on a cd rom with the kit.

Take a picture of the plug before we go any further... I dare say my (and any of them actually) Stag lead may fit ;) I think KME is an AEB based system so might be able to get basic access to it with another software programme.

Too tired to start digging around tinterweb for info tonight but will try to have a look over the next few days :y

I have managed to get a lead for it and i am waiting for it to arrive from Bulgaria of all places, so when it arrives i will contact you all again, and see if we can go from there, i will take a few pictures of the install and plug and post up the pics later., Meanwhile i am waiting for it to stop peeing down so i can try and change one of the two filters under the bonnet.

I reckon its worth some basic maintenance before going any further. Watch for gas burns when undoing fuel lines obviously.

This website seems to have a selection of KME software, found with a very quick google ;)

http://oldwww.kme.eu/EN_index.html

Once you determine what system you have we can move on further... It should say somewhere on the ECU :y

Ok , i have managed to clean the filter before the vapourisr with carb cleaner untill the new replacment arrives, it was very bad and in need of replacment the other filter before the injectors will need to be done hopefully tomorrow, when the bloke next door moves his car so i can get an extension lead to the car to unsolder 2 wires to the filter, hose clips are the reusable click together type so that will be easy enough. the ecu does not appear to have any version codes on it but i will check further.
just had the jeep running on gas and seems fine at the moment and cleaning the filter with carb cleaner has not had any ill effects.
Still raining here but the sun is trying to come out. :y
Ps thanks LazyD.

Ok i have changed the magic filter after the vapouriser and found a gas leak on the small bore pipe from the filter that goes up to what looks like a small square box with an electrical plug. i fixed that by trimming back the pipe and fitting a new clip.
I have driven from feltham to mitcham a distance of about 20 miles and it performed fine with no hint of misfire or poor performance, when the new filter arrives from belguim i will change the one i cleaned with carb cleaner.
But i have noticed that the switch over from gas can be a little slow and requires a rev of the engine above 2,500 rpm to make it switch, even when cold or hot, is this a map issue if so that might be cured with a remap of the ecu.(Hopfully)
Gary.

Sounds like a setting issue..  Used to do it on the old single point set ups... Switch over only above 2k RPM and even then it only switched when on over run :y

I have done some research on the KME gold vap and it seems there is a temp sensor in the vap, but i cannot seam to find its location, it  has 2 wires to it but mine does not seem to have it, but i cannot see underneath the body of the vap. it might be there so will dig out a mirror and take a gander.
Could it be that at fault.

It's smack bang in between the vaporiser pipes.

Depends where the fitter put it ;) But that's the obvious place and most likely :y

In any of the threaded holes by removing the bolt/set screw that is currently in it, exactly as will have been done to fit that one ;)

So am i cos i cant find it on mine ::)

Look for a 2 wire sensor either in the vaporiser or the coolant lines :y

The one in the vap is vap temp, the one in the vapour lines is combined gas temp and pressure :y

I now have an interface lead and a cd with software on it, now i need a kind soul to plug my jeep into their lappy and tell me whats going on with my lpg set up and if there is any changes needed to improve it.
Can travel to you for an evening meet up, and possibly combine it with a curry night as well.
Next weekend is not possible, as me and the better half are off to bath for the weekend, but any night tuesday to thursday is good for me.
Gary.
